UW Medical Center Northwest Rehab Therapies has an outstanding opportunity for an Occupational Therapist Inpatient.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-Time / 40 hours per week

  • Day Shift

  • This position is expected to last through July 2026

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • This role performs occupational therapy treatments and related duties as prescribed by an MD DO DDS PA ARNP podiatrist chiropractor or naturopathic physician. Assigned patients may be hospital inpatients.

  • As requested by the attending/consulting physician the Occupational Therapist evaluates plans implements and/or provides work direction and instruction for occupational therapy treatment procedures to maximize the patients level of functioning.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and Evaluates Care includes but is not limited to:

  • Reviews physicians referral and diagnosis and patients medical record history and background.

  • Determines therapy treatment and develops long and short range goals.

  • Evaluates and monitors patients progression and makes appropriate adjustments to treatment plan to achieve maximum benefit.

Provides Progresses and Documents Care includes but is not limited to:

  • Prior to therapy intervention performs and documents an initial exam and evaluates data and diagnosis to identify problems.

  • Administers treatments (including Easy Street and other treatment modalities) and activities to develop improve and/or restore functions compensate for dysfunction and/or minimize debilitation. Adapts techniques/media to the needs and capabilities of the patient.

  • Follows established procedures; observes all safety precautions.

  • Meets departmental standards for quality customer service and productivity.

  • Records patients treatment progress and response in patients chart/computer record. Documents all therapy services rendered daily. Completes documentation and written communication in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Demonstrates understanding of measures such as relative values (RVUs) Functional Independent Measure (FIM) and Patient Independence Profile (PIP).

  • Submits charge tickets to reflect time spent with patients seen each day.

Provides for Continuing Care includes but is not limited to:

  • Performs re-evaluation of patients status and when goals or projected outcomes have been attained or when otherwise appropriate recommends discharging the patient from therapy.

  • Formulates discharge and follow-up plan (including home treatment and activities) in collaboration with patient family and interdisciplinary team.

  • Orients and trains patient and family on home treatment plan; communicates plan with home care services as applicable.

  • Recommends and assists in the selection of safety equipment appropriate to the patients discharge environment.

  • Recommends appropriate community resources.

Communication and Collaboration includes but is not limited to:

  • Participates in the hospital-wide Interdisciplinary Managed Care concept.

  • Confers with patient medical practitioners and appropriate others to plan implement and assess the treatment program and solve treatment problems.

  • Observes and reports patients responses to the referring medical practitioner by progress notes letters and verbal communication.

  • Attends appropriate conferences and/or meetings pertaining to assigned patient.

Training and Leadership includes but is not limited to:

  • Trains and orients new employees.

  • Provides work direction and instruction to students OT Assistants support staff and volunteers as assigned.

  • Develops and presents in-service education classes; participates in community education / awareness programs.

  • Assists with organizational planning and actively participates in the development and implementation of new programs group programs departmental performance improvement projects and projects that ensure the department remains compliant with all regulatory requirements.

Equipment and Supplies includes but is not limited to:

  • Constructs and/or issues appropriate adaptive equipment orthotic devices etc.

  • Complies with procedures for maintenance and cleaning of departmental supplies and equipment.

  • Maintains the department Easy Street treatment areas and patients rooms (when used as a treatment area) according to safety and general housekeeping procedures.

  • Reports to the appropriate person in a timely manner when supplies and equipment need to be ordered or repaired.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program and successful completion of American Occupational Therapy certification examination.

  • Licensed by the state of Washington as an Occupational Therapist or has a valid limited permit issued by the state of Washington to practice occupational therapy.

  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.
