OTA Validation Engineer
Location: Auburn Hills Michigan
We are looking for an experienced OTA (Over-the-Air) Validation Engineer with 4 6 years of experience in automotive software validation and connected vehicle technologies. The candidate will be responsible for validating OTA software update functionality across ECUs telematics systems and vehicle platforms to ensure reliable secure and seamless software deployment.
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in automotive validation CAN tools diagnostics OTA update testing and embedded systems validation.
Key Responsibilities
Validate end-to-end OTA software update functionality for automotive ECUs and connected vehicle platforms
Perform functional regression integration and system-level testing for OTA features
Execute validation for software flashing firmware updates rollback mechanisms and recovery scenarios
Verify OTA update performance under different network conditions (Wi-Fi LTE 5G etc.)
Analyze vehicle communication logs using CAN/LIN/Ethernet protocols
Work with diagnostics protocols such as UDS DoIP and CAN FD
Develop and execute manual and automated test cases for OTA workflows
Validate cybersecurity aspects related to OTA updates authentication and secure flashing
Perform failure analysis root cause investigation and defect tracking
Collaborate with development integration cybersecurity and system engineering teams
Support vehicle-level testing HIL/SIL validation and bench testing activities
Prepare validation reports test documentation and compliance reports
Required Skills
Strong experience in OTA validation and automotive ECU testing
Hands-on experience with CAN tools such as CANoe CANalyzer Vehicle Spy or similar
Knowledge of automotive communication protocols: CAN LIN Ethernet CAN FD
Experience with diagnostics protocols: UDS DoIP OBD
Good understanding of OTA architecture firmware flashing and telematics systems
Experience in test automation using Python CAPL or scripting languages
Familiarity with embedded systems and automotive software validation lifecycle
Experience with defect management and test management tools (JIRA ALM Polarion etc.)
Understanding of cybersecurity concepts related to OTA updates
Strong debugging and log analysis skills
Preferred Skills
Experience with AUTOSAR architecture
Exposure to HIL tools such as dSPACE Vector VT systems or NI platforms
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated validation frameworks
Familiarity with cloud-connected vehicle platforms and backend OTA systems
Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
