Job Summary

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires a permanent full-time Director of Professional Student Support Services. The position will be located in Saskatoon or Kenaston.

Sask DLC is a Treasury Board Crown Corporation created to deliver high-quality and equitable online learning programs to students across the province. Sask DLCs head office is located in Kenaston with an administrative office in Regina and regional campuses located in Estevan Kenaston La Ronge Moose Jaw Meadow Lake Nipawin Prince Albert Regina Saskatoon Swift Current and Yorkton.

Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent of Student Supports the Director of Professional Student Support Services provides operational leadership for multidisciplinary professional services within the Student Supports Department. The Director supervises and supports professional staff in disciplines including psychology speech-language pathology occupational therapy and social work while also leading the planning coordination and implementation of system-level initiatives within the Student Supports portfolio.
This role leads the ongoing review refinement implementation and continuous improvement of service delivery models that support a continuum of student needs within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) and needs-based framework building on existing structures and practices. The Director ensures that professional services are high-quality consistent and structured to respond effectively to student needs identified through student-centered processes.
Working collaboratively with Student Support Consultants and other members of the Student Supports team the Director plays a key role in leading the planning coordination and implementation of system-level initiatives including the ongoing strengthening of service delivery models systems structures and priority initiatives.
The Director is accountable for supervising professional staff and ensuring the effective day-to-day operation of professional student support services. This role does not coordinate student-specific programming or Inclusion and Intervention Plans (IIPs) but ensures that the systems structures and professional practices are in place to support effective multidisciplinary involvement.
This role balances operational leadership with system development and project implementation responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision to professional staff across multidisciplinary services with clarity of roles effective workflow and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Leads the ongoing review and refinement of professional service delivery models identifying gaps overlaps and opportunities to improve consistency efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Establishes and reinforces expectations for professional practice across disciplines ensuring consistency quality and alignment with organizational standards.
  • Translates organizational direction into clear operational plans for professional services including service delivery expectations resource allocation and system implementation.
  • Leads the planning coordination and implementation of system-level initiatives within the Student Supports portfolio ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and responsiveness to identified needs.
  • Supports planning allocation and monitoring of resources related to professional services ensuring effective and sustainable use of staff tools and supports.
  • Leads the review refinement and ongoing development of systems and tools that support professional documentation service tracking and data-informed decision-making.
  • Establishes and monitors structures that support accountability including documentation practices service tracking and reporting processes to inform decision-making.
  • Provides regular updates analysis and recommendations to the Superintendent regarding service delivery system effectiveness and emerging needs.
  • Works collaboratively with Student Support Consultants and other system leaders to ensure alignment between student identification processes service delivery and system capacity.
  • Provides consultation and guidance in complex or ambiguous situations where service pathways roles or decisions require clarification.
  • Identifies risks challenges and pressures within service delivery and develops strategies to address them proactively.
  • Contributes to broader organizational planning cross-departmental initiatives and system-level decision-making as part of the leadership team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Student Supports.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary service delivery within K12 education including psychology speech-language pathology occupational therapy and social work.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability including direct supervision of professional staff and fostering a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced communication and presentation skills including the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas present to senior leadership and engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills including the ability to plan prioritize and manage multiple initiatives and competing demands simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead the planning coordination and implementation of system-level initiatives ensuring alignment integration and sustainability.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills including the ability to interpret data identify trends and develop practical effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of privacy legislation (FOIP and HIPA) and professional documentation standards.
  • Understanding of current trends and developments in inclusive education multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and student support services.

Required Education and Experience

  • Typically the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through the successful completion of a graduate degree in Education Educational Leadership Educational Administration Public Administration or related field.
  • Significant (typically 10 years) of experience in professional student support services
  • Extensive experience in leadership including formal supervision of staff and successful management of multiple programs or portfolios simultaneously.
  • Experience in system-level implementation planning and evaluation.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.

Employment Conditions

  • Office environment/setting.
  • Typical core office hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Monday to Friday.
  • Travel as required.
