The Workers Compensation District Judge will conduct judicial hearings within an assigned district by presiding over disputed workers compensation claims in a judicial capacity and rendering final appealable judgments. This position also carries full administrative responsibility for the assigned district within the state.
The Office of Workers Compensation Administration (OWCA) in Louisiana oversees the enforcement and administration of workers compensation laws aiming to support early return-to-work efforts and improve workplace safety. The department manages disputed claims conducts hearings reviews medical treatment disputes and investigates fraud through collaborative efforts like the GAME ON task force. Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus six years of experience as a practicing attorney which includes one of the following:
Two years of experience practicing Workers Compensation law or as a mediator in the Office of Workers Compensation; OR
Two years of experience in conducting hearings in a field related to the law being adjudicated; OR
Two years of experience in personal injury litigation which involved evaluating medical evidence and information concerning disability.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Details:
- Determines entitlement to and the level of workers compensation benefits in disputed claims including assessing the percentage of employee disability in accordance with the Workers Compensation Act.
- Conducts trials on the merits to resolve disputes regarding benefit entitlement as defined by applicable state or federal laws and regulations ensuring all proceedings uphold due process.
- Determines proper jurisdiction for claims including whether matters fall within state or federal authority.
- Analyzes pleadings in preparation for trials and hearings and rules on motions evidentiary objections and procedural issues both prior to and during proceedings.
- Prepares for trials and hearings by reviewing case files depositions interrogatories and pre-filed exhibits as well as evaluating investigative reports and audio/visual evidence.
- Renders judgments based on applicable law prior decisions of Workers Compensation Judges and precedents established by appellate courts and the Louisiana Supreme Court along with other authoritative legal sources.
