Job Description
TheBuilding Brains Afterschool Behavior Specialist will be assisting the afterschool program team by supporting students with challenging behaviors emotional regulation needs or social skills. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining familiarity with Individual Education Plans (IEP ) and Behavior Retention Plans (BIP) as applicable providing necessary coaching and professional development for team members. This position will also be collaborating with staff on the development and implementation of social emotional enrichment plans for students.

Essential Duties
  • Implementing behavior intervention strategies and individualized behavior plans as applicable
  • Monitoring and documenting student behavior progress and potential triggers
  • Supporting emotional regulation and social-emotional skill development
  • Collaborating with afterschool staff teachers and administrations to ensure consistency
  • Modeling positive behavior strategies and coaching staff as needed
  • Responding to behavioral incidents using deescalation tactics and trauma informed practices
  • Creating a safe structured and inclusive environment for all students
  • Communicating with families when appropriate regarding student progress or concerns in a positive and informative way
  • Assisting with the delivery of professional development related to behavior management and child development as applicable
Public Speaking Duties
  • Must be able to interact with individuals or small groups of students with patience and grace

Hourly rate
$21.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in Behavioral Science Psychology Social Work Special Education Early Childhood Education or a closely related field AND
  • Three years of experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp afterschool daycare or similar setting preferred OR
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (must be obtained within first 90 days of employment)
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science Psychology Social Work Special Education Early Childhood Education or a closely related field AND
  • Three years of experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp afterschool daycare or similar setting
