Both positions are located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health (OMH) Public Safety Division 7901 Farrow Road Columbia SC 29203.
Responsibilities for the Security Specialist III:
- Assists nursing services with upset patients; assists in locating missing patients; and assists with transporting patients as required.
- Creates the initial report on all incidents to include patient abuse theft and contraband.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) standards.
- Ensures that all contractual agreements are met within their responsible area including completing all supporting documentation.
- Patrols assigned areas to prevent infractions of rules and regulations of the Office of Mental Health and checks property by standard operations procedures.
- Enforces parking rules issues warnings summons tickets and maintains traffic control as needed.
- Assists law enforcement officers in searching vehicles employees and visitors as needed staying alert for drugs alcoholic beverages etc.
- Responds to fire alarms or other emergency calls; assists in extinguishing fires and maintains crowd control if necessary.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- A high school diploma
- Experience in fire prevention safety or security activities
- Must be at least 21 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Additional Comments
Post hire employee must have:
Maintain a high level of communication with districts and facility staff.
Must beable to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work fluctuating hours.
Effective communication skills
Have considerable knowledge of state laws rules and regulations of the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
