Board Member - Victoria Womens Transition House Society
Are you interested in volunteering as a Board Member for an organization committed to supporting women experiencing intimate partner violence
The Victoria Womens Transition House Society (VWTH) Board of Directors is excited to welcome applications from individuals who are interested in volunteering for a two-year term as a Board Member (with up to an additional two consecutive terms).
The VWTHS works from an intersectional feminist perspective. We are committed to upholding the values of diversity equity and inclusion on the Board. We welcome and encourage applications from qualified persons including visible minorities Indigenous Peoples individuals living with disabilities persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and all people committed to meaningful work that makes a difference.
Board members are required to:
Commit to the VTWHS mission values and objectives understand the Societys foundational documents including the constitution bylaws mission vision and strategic plans and provide effective Board-level support to ensure the organizations success in fulfilling its mission and maintaining its financial health;
Regular in person attendance of monthly board meetings special functions of the Board (as scheduled throughout the year) participate in Board committees and accept project-specific committee assignments; and
Contribute to effective Board governance decision-making and provide thoughtful comments and input as needed.
We are seeking three new board members who are committed to the work of VWTH and who can contribute meaningfully as members of the board of directors. We are looking for people who are committed to the work of the society and have an interest in advocacy across all levels of government. We are especially interested in those who have the following experience:
Family law background or justice experience;
Experience in the medical and mental health fields;
Experience with non-profit society governance philanthropy and fundraising; and
Social work background;
We are also interested in those candidates who might have an interest in stepping into a leadership role. A combination of lived experience education training and/or work experience are valued.

The Board Recruitment and Nomination Sub-committee will review submissions and convene interviews as early as mid-June with the final interview scheduled for near the end of July.
Nominations will be considered by the Board at its meeting in August 2026 with the plan to confirm new Board appointments at the Societys AGM scheduled for September 2026.
