The King County Metro Transit Facilities Division (TFD) is hiring for an Administrator III position-an essential role that offers excellent benefits and the opportunity to be part of a mission driven collaborative team. The ideal candidate is highly organized and able to manage multiple administrative projects and priorities at once. This position provides direct support to Section Managers to ensure smooth operations and serves as the guide for other division administrative professionals leading processes and ensuring consistent implementation across the division. This position also plays a key role in supporting division wide programs and helping interpret data to guide decision making.

About Metros Transit Facilities Division:

King County Metro Transits FacilitiesDivisionmaintainsall Metro Transit properties such as bus bases park & rides bus shelters and offices and maintenance shops. Services include bus shelter repairs and replacements bus shelter cleaning trolley wire repairs radio maintenance for buses environmental spill clean-up bus sign replacement graffiti removal and other facilities maintenance division-wide support functions for finance budget environmental compliance safety training administrativeservicesand new employee orientation. Planning inventory/materials management work center workforce management functional asset management general/maintenance agreements systems support capital infrastructure sustainable resources/energy.


This recruitment may immediately fill one (1) Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position with an anticipated duration of six (6) months with possibility of extension. This recruitment may be used to establish an eligibility pool to fill future Special Duty Assignment (SDA) vacancies that may occur over the next twelve (12) months.

Job Duties

Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. All employees are expected to model and apply our equity and social justice shared values behaviors and practices. As the Administrator IIIyou will also:


  • Provide direct support to section managers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Guide Transit Facilities administrative staff.
  • Serve as the escalation point for administrative issues including payroll protected leave and grievances.
  • Develop tools to assess administrative services and identify process improvements.
  • Develop and document standard work procedures for consistency and efficiency across division.
  • Provide training to staff on these procedures to support knowledge transfer and compliance.
  • Evaluate administrative trends and industry best practices; recommend policy updates and procedural changes to enhance service delivery.
  • Serve as HR liaison for the division supporting grievance tracking and protected leave processes.
  • Oversee records management systems for digital and physical documents ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Maintain documentation for grievances investigations meeting minutes and personnel actions.
  • Coordinate and lead special projects across the division.
  • Prepare agendas attend and take minutes for Labor-Management Relations Committee (LMRC) meetings grievances and investigations.
  • Recommend cost efficiency and service improvements.
  • Assist with spending plans and budget maintenance activities.
  • Provide oversight and troubleshooting for payroll processing.
  • Monitor and support compliance with administrative policies and procedures across the division.
  • Serve as the division lead on travel policies and standards.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

To be considered eligible for this role applicants must possess these MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible experience in a range of business and advanced administrative functions that pertain to this position.
  • Demonstrated skill in project or program management and the ability to apply principles and practices related to data collection analysis and program management into administrative duties.
  • Professional courteous and tactful customer service skills that demonstrate discretion patience and the ability to follow through on commitments.
  • The proven ability to be a productive and collaborative team member who values the diversity of opinions perspectives backgrounds experiences and cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to foster effective working relationships built on trust and respect with an increasingly diverse team and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented organized and show initiative and resourcefulness in independently resolving problems and ensuring a quality work product.
  • Demonstrated ability to document prepare and communicate program information to key staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required including negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Skill in maintaining strict confidentiality in the handling of sensitive data and information involving matters internal to TFD and Metro.
  • Data analysis skills that support their ability to make data-driven decisions identify trends and track program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail. Proven ability to multi-task and remain organized in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Time management skills that demonstrate the ability to manage competing priorities multiple projects and daily responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with software and tools generally used by business and administrative staff including Office products such as Outlook Word Excel Teams and SharePoint.
  • A positive collaborative flexible disposition; equally adept at working independently or as part of a team.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial information systems.

SELECTION PROCESS

WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE
The primary reporting location for this position will be at King Street Center (210 S Jackson St; Seattle WA 98104). Work may also be required at other facilities throughout the Metro Transit service area.


This position will work in a hybrid model with three (3) days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change.


Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.


King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the departments hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.


This position is anticipated to be scheduled 40 hours per week. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore not overtime eligible. Work outside of the normal workday is required periodically.
