Primary Objective
As Department Manager for Offshore Structural you will be accountable for oversight of offshore structural engineering activities (concept FEED and detailed design) including analysis and design of topsides jackets and associated substructures and for ensuring work is executed safely to applicable codes/standards and contractual requirements and within approved budget and schedule.
You will be accountable for leading team members including their ongoing development and assignment to projects and for delivery of engineering within the discipline in compliance with company requirements.
Specific Accountabilities
Technical Competency
- Provide overall supervision of structural engineers designers and project-designated structural designers/draftsmen. Own and maintain technical competency of structural personnel (training upskilling/reskilling mentoring technical reviews/peer reviews/checking).
- Forecast structural engineering resource requirements and allocate resources across projects; manage mobilization/demobilization to maintain sufficient resourcing and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure structural design integrity of work scope and maintenance of discipline standards processes templates and guidelines. Identify evaluate and govern structural software/tools required for effective delivery; drive digital adoption to reduce manual effort.
- Develop and strengthen interdisciplinary and structural group communication and collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with quality safety environmental and security requirements including safety in design and management of change.
- Manage structural engineering design within budget and schedule; support corrective actions with project teams when issues arise.
- Evaluate new technology and industry advancements against existing standards and revise where applicable; benchmark design/drafting to identify improvement opportunities including total installed costs etc.
- Promote cost reduction productivity and value-creation initiatives; prepare progress and expenditure reporting as required.
- Promote career development and performance management within the group (KPIs competency/skill gap assessment hiring and resource management).
Project Execution
- Contribute to project execution strategy and planning (as required); prepare discipline work-hour estimates and support schedules/budgets.
- Drive innovative solutions technology advances and methods to deal with out-of-sequence work and delivery constraints.
- Work with project management teams to take corrective action on issues impacting staffing scope progress schedule completion and/or profitability.
- Review and authorize work performed by direct reports and delegated reviewers ensuring workloads are at manageable levels.
Business Operations
- Participate in budgeting and manage discipline operations to budget; plan approve and control discipline expenditures in line with company policy.
- Manage discipline staffing levels and organizational structure; monitor project discipline structures and ensure coverage when resources change.
- Create and maintain discipline guidelines processes templates and standard deliverables; ensure mentoring/training requirements are met.
- Manage the employee performance review process; contribute to dispute resolution as needed. Ensure discipline work and team activities meet all health safety environmental and security requirements.
Business Development Support
- Support business development by maintaining CVs/resumes and capability profiles; track existing capabilities and plan for future customer requirements.
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with customers suppliers and contractors; support networking negotiations strategic alliancing and cost-savings efforts where applicable.
- Maintain benchmarking for discipline effort; contribute to proposals by developing discipline execution strategy estimating/reviewing costs drafting proposal content and presenting to customers; may lead part or all of a proposal.
Qualifications Accreditation Training:
- Full-time Bachelors Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Trained in leadership and project execution.
- Licensed / Chartered with a recognised engineering governing body. Willing to achieve engineering accreditation with a local institution is mandatory; candidates without this accreditation must be willing to achieve it within the probationary period.
Job Specific Knowledge / Experience
- Strong background in discipline work and a competent understanding of regulations codes manufacturing standards and industry standard practices.
- Sound grasp of offshore structural analyses for pre-service (loadout lift transportation launch/flotation on-bottom stability) and in-service (in-place seismic fatigue pushover) conditions.
- Comprehensive understanding of structural analysis topics including dynamic loading/resistance collapse analysis spectral fatigue analysis fire and explosion design reliability-based analysis and dropped object (as applicable).
- Knowledge of structural detailing and ability to develop construction-friendly and economic connection/support details.
- Extensive senior-level Energy experience; experience leading and managing large structural engineering/design teams.
Systems & Tools
- Competent in Microsoft Outlook Word Excel Teams and PowerPoint.
- Ability to organize information from many sources and retain it as per prescribed format and policies.
- Functional awareness of discipline tools.
- Conversant in interrelationship of tools within the discipline analytics and modeling and cross-discipline data-centric methods.
Additional Role-Specific Expectations
- Minimum 15 years design experience in Oil & Gas including leadership of structural discipline engineers and designers; may require 20 years overall experience with substantial conceptual/FEED/detailed design exposure.
- Adept at budgeting and cost control.

- Assume hands-on management and implementation of all relevant company HSE requirements. Drive safe and sustainable engineering outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle via the application of SEAL.

Responsible for discipline planning budgeting and approval of expenditures and implements approved programs in accordance with budget and company policy.
