LOCATION

Infleqtion has offices in the USA UnitedKingdomand is a full-time positionsplit betweenour Kidlington Oxford officeand the National Quantum Computing Centre from home permitted up to 2 days per week based on business needs and manager approval.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role will support the quantum computing teams optomechanical engineering group and collaborate with a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers whose mission is to build the worlds most useful quantum computing an opto-mechanical engineer you will be exposed to a wide range ofopticaldesign challenges working alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry to translate experimental concepts into engineered a team we encourage a proactive hands-on approach giving our engineers the opportunity to research designbuildand testopto-mechanical systems in a diverse and collaborative environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the role. Depending on business needs this role may perform a combination of some orallthe following duties. Duties responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned.

  • Collaboratewith physicists and optical electrical mechanical and software engineers to gather optomechanical system requirements.
  • From source to atom:Supportthefull beam deliverydesignassemblyandtest cycle for optomechanicalsystemsfrom thecomponentlevel up through large sub-systemscontaininghundreds of precisely aligned optical elements.
  • Useoptical and mechanicalsimulation tools(SolidWorksSimulation ANSYSZeemax)to guide design decisions communicating findings to project leaders both verbally and through design documentation.
  • Create CAD models(SolidWorks) drawings and documentation packagesin accordance withcompany design guidelines and industry best practice.
  • Develop manufacturing processesto ensureaccurateand repeatableassembly and alignment of themodulesyou create.
  • Characterize optomechanical components and systems for performance reliability and stability by formulating and executing structured test plans.


Requirements

Technical Knowledge

  • ABachelors degree in Mechanical EngineeringOptical EngineeringMechatronics Physics or similar field(s) or equivalent vocational qualification(s) andat least two years of relevant experience.
  • Expertiseinfree space and/orfibreoptical system design.
  • Hands on experience withprecision alignment of optical and laser systems.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • In depth understanding of GD&Tand technicaldrawing practices (ASME or ISO).
  • Fundamental understanding of laser beams and reflective and refractive optics design.
  • Demonstrated understanding of laser safety principles and regulatory requirements including hazard identification/classification risk assessment and the implementation ofappropriate engineering administrative and procedural controls in the design and operation of laser systems.
  • Experience with optomechanical fixturing in a controlled environment with focus on ease of alignment and maintenance and stability and reliability.
  • Experience using optical test equipment including power meters optical spectrumanalysers wavemeters Fabry-Perot interferometers polarimeters wave-front sensors and photodiodes.
  • Experience withopticalsimulationtools (ANSYSZeemax).
  • Familiarity with structuralandthermalanalysistools and methods.
  • Proficiencyin MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial drive intellectualagilityand personal eagerness to develop with the needs of the business.
  • Passion for solving complex problems and challenges in a highly technical and scientific environment.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a highly collaborative cross-functional team-oriented and matrixed environment.

Desirable skills andknowledge

  • Experienceworking with anddesigning systemsthatcontainhigh power lasers.
  • Experience with micro-optics photonically integrated circuits ormetasurfacecomponents.
  • Experience with design for harsh dynamic environments(shockvibration temperaturehumidity).
  • Experience with magneticfield simulation and shielding.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment usingdata managementsystemssuch as PDMPLMor ERP.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work will normally be performed in an office and laboratory environment. Able to efficiently use automated office equipment such as laptops copiers and printers; able to effectively engage in communications (via phone computer or in-person). Will involve sitting standing walking lifting and carrying up to 10 kg.
