Job Summary

Description

If you are planning to advance your career in the direction of electrochemical energy storage with 2D materials in focus then this postdoc position at DTU Energy might be for you.

MXenes are a new class of two-dimensional materials discovered around 14 years ago. It is the graphene analogue for MAX phases. MAX phases are a class of ceramic materials with pseudo-ductility whereas MXenes are a special class of materials which offers versatile combination of properties from electrical conductivity mechanical strength electromagnetic shielding to energy conversion. As 2D materials MXenes offer the possibility of tunable interlayer spacing providing unique opportunities for design and functionalization. This feature enables tailored properties for specific applications.

The field of MXene research is rapidly expanding presenting researchers with numerous exciting opportunities to make groundbreaking discoveries and contribute to cutting-edge advancements. It offers the platform for inter-disciplinary research where materials scientists physicists chemists engineers and other specialists can contribute as a team.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The position entails the synthesis of both MAX phase and the subsequent MXene. The chemistry of the MAX phase and MXene will be evaluated for the best electro-chemical response for energy addition MXenes will also be tested for their potential as superconductors and electro-mechanical addition MXenes with defects leading to non-centro symmetric crystal structure will be synthesized with piezoelectric functional properties in mind.

Qualified applicants must have:

  • Extensive experience in Molten salt synthesis towards high temperature ceramics like MAX phases.
  • Lewis acid molten salt synthesis of 2D MXene.
  • Deep understanding of crystallography microscopy and electro-chemical characterization.
  • A high level of understanding of the correlation of MXene chemistry and its functional properties.
  • A PhD degree in the molten salt synthesis of MAX and/or MXene materials.

General qualifications:

  • A strong eagerness to excel in science.
  • The ability to work independently from conceptualization to experimentation and dissemination of results with the aid of scientific illustrations and text.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken).

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
