Job Summary

San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) serves students from 14 months through 12th grade on a beautiful 56-acre campus. We are seeking mature positive and caring team members to join our Early Childhood Center (ECC) as on-call Substitute Teachers.

As an ECC Substitute Teacher you will:
  • Support classroom teachers in implementing daily schedules and planned activities.
  • Supervise and actively engage with children in a safe nurturing environment.
  • Provide clear and consistent expectations for behavior.
  • Assist children with daily routines and basic needs.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization including light cleaning and disinfecting as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with staff and families.
  • Adapt quickly to different classroom and age groups as assigned.

  • Meet and exceed safety standards - follow established procedures carefully.
Qualifications:
  • A passion for and knowledge of the social emotional and creative needs of young children.
  • Six months experience working with young children preferably in a licensed childcare setting.
  • Coursework in Child Development or Early Childhood Education strongly preferred.
    A fully qualified candidate will have all of the following:
    • 3 units in Infant/Toddler Development
    • 6 units in Child Development Program/Curriculum
    • 3 units in Child Family and Community or Child and Family Relations
    • 3 units in Child/Human Growth Development
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Sufficient mobility strength and full range of body motion for: sitting walking standing bending squatting climbing kneeling crawling twisting grasping fine manipulation pushing/pulling reaching stooping using smell and touch working outside and vision and hearing.
  • Ability to work with cleaning and sanitizing supplies.

Compensation Range:
$20-$25 per hour (on-call).
Compensation is based on experience education and practical knowledge.
