Job Description
The Therapeutic Recreation Leader will be supervising assisting and actively engaging participants during programming inclusive recreation initiatives and county-wide special events. The incumbent will be assessing participants for placement in adaptive and inclusive programs as well as ensuring that the programs are safe inclusive and aligned with therapeutic recreation best practices.
Essential Duties
- Planning and organizing programs for individuals with a wide range of disabilities
- Adapting activities to meet individual needs and abilities while encouraging participation and skill development
- Monitoring participant behavior and providing appropriate support redirection or assistance as needed
- Maintaining accurate program records attendance evaluations incident reports and participant information
- Assisting with emergency response and first aid as needed
- Communicating effectively with participants caregivers staff and volunteers
- Assisting with program set-up and break-down including equipment tables chairs and supplies
- Performing other duties as assigned
Public Speaking Duties
- Overseeing volunteers and assisting with training and supervision when applicable
- Leading and teaching exercise activities and therapeutic and adaptive recreation programs using proper body mechanics
- Assisting during county-wide special events and inclusive recreation initiatives
Other Job Requirements/Information
- This job may require after hours weekends and/or holidays.
Hourly Salary
- The hourly rate is $16.80.
Minimum Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or GED
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Valid drivers license
Preferred Qualifications
- Therapeutic or adaptive recreation certification
- Bilingual
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist CTRS
- CPR / AED
Preferred Qualifications
- A certification in therapeutic or adaptive recreation
- Bilingual
