Description
The Public Affairs and Community Engagement (PACE) Division is seeking a seasonal Media Specialist to support the Department of Parks and Recreations communications and marketing efforts through strong writing storytelling and media support. This position plays a key role in sharing the Departments impact programs and services with residents partners and stakeholders across Prince Georges County.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer who understands how to translate government and community-focused work into clear engaging and accessible content that reflects the Departments mission and brand.

Examples of Important Duties
Key Responsibilities
Writing & Editorial Content
Write edit and proofread a wide range of materials including press releases media advisories feature stories newsletters website content talking points and social media copy
Translate Department initiatives programs events and policies into clear compelling and community-centered messaging
Ensure consistency with Department branding tone and messaging standards
Media & Public Affairs Support
Assist with media outreach efforts including drafting pitches and coordinating interviews
Support preparation of press kits media lists and briefing materials
Monitor and track media coverage related to Department initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Strong writing and editing skills with experience producing public-facing content
Ability to write clearly for diverse audiences including residents media and stakeholders
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
Background in communications journalism public relations marketing or a related field
Experience working in government parks and recreation nonprofit or community based organizations
Familiarity with media relations and public-sector communications
Knowledge of Communications and Marketing best practices and digital storytelling
