Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the director of Ka Ulu Hoi assist with the writing editing and publication of Kawaihuelanis monthly online newspaper.
- Work with the director to proofread and edit submissions prior to publication.
- Upload completed articles each month to the Ka Ulu Hoi website and social media accounts and update these pages as necessary.
- Acquire pictures for each article published as needed.
- Meet with student-writers of the newspaper both individually and in groups as necessary to plan develop and improve their submissions to the paper.
- Contribute one original article to each issue of Ka Ulu Hoi published during the GAs tenure.
- Under the supervision of the director conduct research that will enhance the mentorship of student-writers.
- Other duties as assignedby thedirector.
Minimum Qualifications
- Full time Graduate Student in good standing.
- BA in Hawaiianlanguage.
- Ability to edit written Hawaiian using various strategies and in accordance with the context of language production (e.g. standard University Hawaiian versus native speaker language production).
- Experience writing Hawaiian news articles and opinion pieces as well as the ability to mentor students relatively new to this practice.
- Comfortable using Google Docs Microsoft Word andZoom.
Desired Qualifications
- Current standing as a Graduate Student in Kawaihuelani.
- Experience managing a professional website and/or social mediaaccount.
- Experience taking video and stills for onlinepublication.
- Research experience in Hawaiian languagenewspapers.
