The Senior Director R&D Cardiovascular Ultrasound (CVUS) leads the global CVUS engineering organization - with key engineering centers in Norway and China - with full accountability for engineering execution product quality installed base performance and R&D budget control across a cardiovascular ultrasound franchise. Reporting to the Cardiovascular and Interventional Systems (CVIS) CTO with a dotted line to the CVUS Product GM and partnering with the Chief Engineer who owns long-term technology vision and architectural direction this role translates strategy into predictable product delivery across the full lifecycle from Advanced Technology Development (ATD) through product end of life. This is a highly visible engineering leadership role with direct accountability for one of GE Healthcares Advanced Visualization Systems segments largest and most strategically important franchises.

Job Description

Scope & Impact

  • Own the full engineering lifecycle of the Vivid cardiovascular ultrasound portfolio from portfolio roadmap strategy and ATD through NPI installed base operations and platform evolution.
  • Lead a global multidisciplinary engineering organization across two sites spanning engineering centers in Norway and China disciplines and reporting structures.
  • Drive platform strategy platform reuse and long-range architectural evolution in partnership with the CVIS CTO CVUS Chief Engineer and peers in other AVS segments ensuring AI-powered capabilities and connected software are continuously matured from ATD into product-ready releases that sustain Vivid competitive differentiation.
  • Own installed base engineering performance including field reliability product quality cost productivity and customer satisfaction across the global CVUS installed base.
  • Manage significant engineering budget with full accountability for forecasting resource allocation cost control.

Essential Responsibilities

Operational

  • Establish and own the CVUS engineering development process a unified planning and delivery framework spanning ATD NPI and installed base that drives predictable execution continuous improvement and sustained alignment to the CVUS technology roadmap.
  • Lead delivery of all CVUS NPI programs on time on cost and on quality with clear program governance milestone accountability and resource prioritization.
  • Own full installed base engineering operations including On-Time Delivery Product Quality Quality KPIs (Investigations Non-Conformances CAPA) product cost Customer Satisfaction and portfolio product cost reductions.
  • Drive integration of ATD capabilities into platform releases ensuring emerging technologies including AI algorithms imaging innovations and connected software are matured into product-ready solutions that sustain Vivid competitiveness.
  • Partner with the Chief Engineer and Product Management to evolve the CVUS portfolio roadmap driving platform reuse design standardization and supplier de-risking to improve margin and reduce lifecycle complexity.
  • Drive adoption of modern development tool chains Agile methodologies and AI-driven engineering tools to accelerate development cycles and improve product quality.
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders across clinical service manufacturing and system integration to ensure end-to-end product performance.

Organizational

  • Lead and develop a global engineering organization spanning Norway and China building leadership depth and technical capability across disciplines through training mentoring coaching and stretch assignments.
  • Promote a culture of innovation inclusion and continuous improvement that empowers global engineering teams to deliver predictable execution strong technical ownership and outstanding product quality.
  • Champion program and functional excellence through lean principles ensuring CVUS engineering aligns with software platform and service strategies across AVS.
  • Partner effectively with Chief Engineer Product Management Manufacturing Supply Chain Service and Commercial leaders to align engineering decisions with business outcomes.

Quality Specific Goals

Aware of and comply with the GEHC Quality Manual Quality Management System Quality Management Policy Quality Goals and all applicable laws and regulations; complete all planned Quality and Compliance training within defined deadlines. Ensure highest standards of patient safety and regulatory compliance across all CVUS programs the installed base and before approving milestones or artifacts. Identify and report any quality or compliance concerns and take immediate corrective action as required; drive compliance and closure of all regulatory and quality requirements for post-market product sustenance. Lead continuous improvement activities by initiating process and product quality improvement initiatives across the CVUS value chain.

Operational & Financial Accountability

  • Own the CVUS engineering operating plan budget and resource allocation with full financial accountability across all lifecycle stages.
  • Directly contribute to the growth and margin expansion of cardiovascular ultrasound franchise as a senior member of the CVUS leadership team.
  • Drive productivity platform reuse and cost discipline across the engineering organization balancing investment in innovation against efficiency and margin targets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Biomedical Computer Engineering or equivalent STEM discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering design and development experience in medical devices imaging systems or regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated people management skills with proven ability to motivate and inspire globally distributed teams.
  • Experience working in a global matrixed organization with cross-functional stakeholder management.
  • Solid understanding of engineering processes risk management design controls quality systems FDA design control requirements and applicable ISO and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results across multiple concurrent programs balancing resources timing and quality outcomes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% domestically and internationally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct engineering management experience leading global teams from concept through market introduction.
  • 10 or more years of progressive experience across program and functional leadership roles in medical devices or imaging systems.
  • Track record of delivering large-scale NPI programs and managing advanced technologies and installed base efforts across a product portfolio.
  • Experience leading software-heavy R&D teams with knowledge of modern development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading geographically distributed teams navigating cultural regulatory and time zone differences.
  • Familiarity with connected device architectures cybersecurity requirements cloud-integrated product development and AI-driven engineering tools.
  • Familiarity with cardiovascular or cardiac imaging clinical workflows and the competitive dynamics of the cardiology capital equipment market.
  • Strong systems thinking and financial acumen with proven ability to drive change across diverse global stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated potential and appetite to scale into broader enterprise leadership within GE HealthCare.
