Science Lab Technician and Kindergarten Science Teacher
The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a dynamic collaborative educator/technician to support and strengthen our K12 science program for the 2026-2027 school year. This unique role combines hands-on Kindergarten science instruction with laboratory support across the science department as well as providing support to enhance the experience of the Lower School students. We are looking for a flexible organized and enthusiastic individual who thrives in a school environment and enjoys both teaching young learners and supporting innovative science instruction behind the scenes.
The ideal candidate is passionate about science education committed to student-centered and inclusive practices and eager to collaborate with faculty in the Science Department and the Lower School Division.. Strong communication skills attention to detail and a proactive mindset are essential.
This is a full time 10 month exempt position starting on August 31 2026 reporting to the Chair of the Science Department and the Head of Lower School.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Kindergarten Science Teaching (2 Sections)
- Teach engaging hands-on science lessons for Kindergarten students in earth life and physical science
- Foster curiosity exploration and early scientific thinking through inquiry-based learning
- Work closely with the Lower School Science teachers to develop and implement dynamic K science lessons
- Collaborate with Lower School and K12 science faculty to support curriculum continuity
- Assess student learning and communicate progress through narrative feedback and family communication
- Provide support to Lower School students and teachers as needed
- Attend relevant department and division meetings
Science Lab Technician
- Prepare organize and set up materials and lab stations for K12 science classes
- Manage ordering purchasing vendor coordination and inventory tracking
- Receive and inspect deliveries; ensure proper storage of materials and chemicals in compliance with safety standards
- Maintain lab schedules and shared calendars for faculty use
- Support preparation for special programs labs and departmental events
- Care for living organisms used in science instruction
- Collaborate with the Science Department Head on budgets scheduling and operational needs
- Research and recommend cost-effective safe and environmentally responsible materials and practices
- Serve as a regular substitute teacher for science classes across divisions as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in science education or related field preferred
- Experience with early childhood or elementary education and/or laboratory support strongly preferred
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently and collaboratively
- Clear and effective communication skills

SALARY
In compliance with NYCs Pay Transparency Act this positions annual salary range is $65000 - $70000. When extending an offer Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the positions scope and responsibilities the candidates work experience education/training key skills internal peer equity and market and organizational considerations.
