Operator 2, Water Plant

Summary:
This is a non OTETA position. Duties include performing skilled and specialized duties
inherent in the operation; maintenance and inspection of a water plant facility. Incumbent is responsible for
maintaining and operating various types of power driven pumps chlorinators aerators and auxiliary engines.


SUPERVISORY EXPECTATIONS:
Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department.
Take responsibility for the overall direction coordination and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory
responsibilities in accordance with the districts policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities
include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities:

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Perform repairs both of permanent and of a emergency nature to equipment and machinery as well as
conducting appropriate and required chemical test.

Operate water plant equipment and machinery such as turbine pumps high service pumps aerators
chlorinators booster pumps and auxillary engines.

Take periodic guage and meter reading and keep records on specific operations take periodic samples
for laboratory and bacteriological analysis.

Operate pumps and valves regulating flow of water pressure and levels throughout the system.

Assist in the maintenance of plant equipment; oils greases waters and wipes machinery; keep plant in a
clean and neat condition.

Perform minor repairs on mechanical equipment and prepares and submits periodic operational reports.

Prepare file and submit daily weekly and monthly operational reports as required by governing
jurisdictions.

Maintain lubricate and assist in repairs to equipment and machinery.

Operate and clean pumps hoses wire screens remove solids from bar screens operate grinder and
collect sewage and sludge samples make simple and routine chemical analyzes.

Prepare statutory reports and documents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and/or projects may be assigned.

Assist in installing maintaining altering and repairing trade related components in district facilities.

Operate all hand tools and power tools to perform functions for specific trades

Adhere to principles and practices of safe use including but not limited to operation of equipment tools
materials and HCPS owned vehicles including maintenance of such equipment of tools.

Perform clean up and work site restoration activities i.e. pick up excess repair materials clean flooring
replace furniture wipe down surfaces.

Respond to emergency call-outs after hours.

Attend safety and other training required by HCPS to keep abreast of current technology relevant to these
trades.
Perform any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in wastewater plant operations

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: A Florida Water Operator C Certificate required for all applicants.
Must possess a Class E Drivers License and comply with HCPS Safe Driver Plan.

Language Skills:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instruction and
procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of
individuals.

Mathematical Skills:
Add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and
decimals. Compute rate ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office

equipment; Proximity to Moving Mechanical Parts; Exposure to Electrical Shock; Working in High Exposed
Places.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Testing: Eligibility for interview requires the successful passing of a written and/or
physical test verifying knowledge of basic terms and/or tools and their use.
