Description
As Senior Business Controller you will be the financial heartbeat of Shoparizes performance management. Reporting directly to the CFO you will own the monthly close reconciliation financial reporting forecasting and budgeting while acting as the primary Finance counterpart to our BI Specialist to ensure that the data powering our dashboards and business decisions is accurate well-defined and aligned with our financial
reality.
This role sits at a critical intersection: you are part controller part analyst and part data owner. You will define what financial data means at Shoparize direct how it is structured and reported through our BI stack (BigQuery Looker Studio) and translate it into insights that support the CFO revenue teams and leadership in making faster and better decisions.
This is not a back-office role. You will be commercially engaged intellectually curious and comfortable challenging both numbers and assumptions including your own.
Role
Financial Close and Reconciliation
Own the monthly financial close process end-to-end ensuring completeness accuracy and timeliness
Reconcile operational and transactional data from our systems against financial actuals and own the resolution of any discrepancies
Ensure that the numbers in our BI dashboards and the numbers in our financial statements tell the same story and investigate immediately when they do not
Maintain a clear audit trail between operational data management reporting and statutory financials
Collaborate closely with the Finance Manager on the close calendar accruals and period-end entries
Financial Reporting & Performance Analysis
Own and continuously improve monthly management reporting: P&L gross margin cash flow and market-level performance
Support the CFO in preparing board materials investor updates and executive business reviews
Analyse revenue cost and margin performance across all 21 European markets and identify drivers trends and outliers
Translate complex financial and operational data into clear concise business narratives for leadership
Deliver ad hoc financial analyses to support commercial operational and strategic decisions
Forecasting Budgeting & Planning
Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing rolling forecast cycles
Build and maintain robust financial models supporting scenario planning market expansion and investment decisions
Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast; own variance analysis and management commentary
Improve the quality frequency and reliability of forward-looking financial information across the business
Support capital allocation decisions with structured business cases and financial modelling
Data Ownership & BI Direction
Act as the Finance-side product owner for all financial and business data: define metric logic KPI definitions and reporting requirements
Direct the BI Specialist on the data structures dashboard builds and reporting outputs that Finance and leadership need; owning the business requirements so the BI Specialist can execute technically
Establish and maintain a single source of truth for key financial metrics (revenue margin costs) that is consistent across Finance Marketing Sales and Operations
Proactively identify data quality issues; escalate and drive resolution with the BI Specialist and the relevant data owners
Ensure that marketing and revenue optimisation data used by the CMO is reconcilable with financial reporting preventing parallel conflicting numbers from emerging across teams
Maintain a living data dictionary of financial metric definitions agreed across multiple disciplines
Strategic Finance & CFO Support
Work closely with the CFO on capital allocation liquidity planning and investment prioritisation
Contribute to strategic finance topics including market expansion new product investments and growth initiatives
Support preparation for future financing activities investor reporting or due diligence processes as needed
Help shape the financial narrative of the business for internal and external audiences
Business Partnering
Build trusted relationships with commercial marketing and operational teams; becoming their go-to for financial insight
Challenge business assumptions constructively and support teams in understanding the financial impact of their decisions
Own the analysis and control of OKRs and KPIs across revenue-driven functions tracking performance against targets identifying deviations early and working directly with those teams
Help establish a data-driven financially disciplined performance culture across Shoparize
Support the CMO with financially grounded revenue optimisation analysis ensuring commercial insights are anchored in auditable financial data
Requirements
University degree in Finance Accounting Business Economics Econometrics or a related field with 48 years of relevant experience in business controlling FP&A or financial reporting
Proven experience owning a monthly close or financial reconciliation process. You understand the detail and the discipline this requires
Strong financial modelling and analytical skills with the ability to move from granular data to executive-level insight
Experience working with BI tools and data environments; comfortable translating business questions into data requirements for a technical team
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and reporting tools; experience with BigQuery and/or Looker is a strong plus
Strong understanding of P&L balance sheet and cash flow mechanics in a multi-market environment
Excellent communication skills; able to influence both finance and non-finance stakeholders
High degree of ownership intellectual rigour and a low tolerance for unreliable numbers
Comfortable operating in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment where processes are still being built
Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus
Nice to Have
Experience in e-commerce marketplace SaaS or other high-growth digital environments
Hands-on experience with BigQuery Looker Studio or equivalent BI/data warehouse stack
Background in performance marketing analytics or familiarity with metrics like ROAS CAC LTV and contribution margin
Exposure to fundraising equity/debt processes or investor reporting
Experience in a multi-entity multi-currency multi-country finance environment
Background in FP&A at a scale-up or in transaction advisory consulting or investment-related roles
