Before & After School Program -Summer Adventures Camp -Assistant Site Leader

Purpose Statement

The role of the Assistant Site Leader is to support the day-to-day management of out-of-school programming at the site level. This role ensures compliance with program policies and procedures while providing supervision and guidance to on-site staff. The Assistant Site Leader helps create a safe engaging and inclusive environment that supports the well-being of students through high-quality hands-on enrichment activities.

Job Title: Before & After School Program - Assistant Site Leader (Temporary)

Hourly Rate: $18.25 (through June 30); $20.00 (effective July 1)

Reports To: Before & After School Program Site Leader and/or Manager of Before & After School Programs

Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Dates:

  • Temporary mid-May through mid-August
  • Monday through Friday on camp days as scheduled
  • Program hours: 6:15 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Work hours may vary from week-to-week
  • Total weekly hours will not exceed 40 hours; exact hours are per individual employment agreement. The position is temporary.
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Meets the Iowa Department of Human Services assistant on-site supervisor requirements

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Certified teacher Early Childhood Education degree or Human Services degree
  • 3 years of relevant experience working with school-age youth
  • Project management/leadership experience
  • Experience as a mentor/coach with children and/or adult
  • Supervisory experience

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining a high-quality out-of-school program site ensuring compliance with District policies program procedures and Iowa Department of Health & Human Services minimum standards.
  • Support daily site operations including assisting with staff supervision and student safety by applying program policies and procedures to respond appropriately to situations and concerns.
  • Assist in coaching on-site staff to ensure consistent implementation of program goals procedures and curriculum.
  • Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly effectively and in a positive manner to employees and students and maintain open transparent interactions with students families staff and district personnel.
  • Support program instruction by modeling and implementing enrichment activities to large groups of students and assist guiding staff in adapting lessons to meet diverse student needs.
  • Assist in the development implementation and monitoring of student support plans and behavior strategies modeling positive behavior management techniques that support student success and social-emotional growth.
  • Assist in the development of student rosters and management of updated student information by accurately compiling and maintaining required site documentation ensuring weekly records are complete and meet established deadlines.
  • Support site organization and resource management including monitoring supplies maintaining equipment and ensuring a clean safe facility.
  • Maintain a continuing program of personal professional development including active participation in required trainings and meetings to improve program quality and ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Health & Human Services minimum standards.
  • Actively support implementation of program initiatives and new learning as required.
  • Assist with coordination of special event programming field trips and guest speakers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel and student information and records.
  • Successfully implement and model positive student behavior management techniques.
  • Establish a positive supportive and working relationship with employees.
  • Supervise and engage large groups of students ages 512 in a safe structured and supportive environment.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills when working with students families staff and administrators.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions taking initiative and performing complex tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills by managing materials schedules and responsibilities efficiently.
  • Balance multiple priorities and complete tasks on time in a fast-paced dynamic program setting.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through both written and verbal means with students staff and families.
  • Adapt to new situations and challenges with a flexible growth-oriented mindset.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of all program procedures and safety protocols.

Working Environment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
