This individual supports analyses of complex multi-source data into compelling narratives and actionable intelligence that guide drug development decision-making across BMSs early-to-late pipeline.
As a trusted data insights partner this role sits within the Drug Development Portfolio Strategy organization and works in close collaboration with Program Management R&D Finance BI&T Resource Management Investor Relations and Global Development Operations (GDO). The Senior Manager is expected to be both technically savvy and embedded as a cross-functional partner. Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Automation
- Support development and maintenance of strategic and operational drug development insights and reports.
- Query manipulate and automate the data flow from relational databases (data products) using SQL or data visualization tools (like Power BI).
- Recommend/implement automation to existing reports to reduce manual intervention required to extract transform and synthesize large complex datasets across clinical financial and operational domains.
- Supports new analysis where advanced statistical and analytical methods are used to identify trends risks and opportunities across the R&D portfolio at the study program and portfolio levels.
- Drive continuous improvement of analytical dashboards by recommending automation opportunities and enhancing the way insights are generated and delivered.
Data Storytelling & Cross-Functional Communication
- Translate complex data into clear compelling narratives that resonate across diverse functional audiences enabling shared understanding and informed decision-making regardless of a stakeholders technical background.
- Design and deliver visually engaging insight-driven presentations and dashboards using tools such as PowerPoint Power BI Spotfire or similar to accelerate decisions.
- Support alignment across key stakeholders by ensuring that portfolio insights are consistently framed contextualized and accessible to key partners spanning Drug Development R&D Finance and Enterprise Strategy functions.
- Support development fit-for-purpose analytical deliverables that catalyze productive dialogue across functions enabling pipeline prioritization portfolio strategy and operational planning conversations to move from debate to decision.
Stakeholder Influence & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build trusted peer-level relationships across functional boundaries to shape BMSs analytics capabilities collaboratively and ensure portfolio intelligence is co-owned or aligned with stakeholders
- Facilitate cross-divisional alignment sessions and working groups translating analytical findings into mutually agreed-upon implications and next steps.
Pipeline Execution Reporting
- Supports Drug Development pipeline delivery reporting across the enterprise & externally including BMS pipeline corporate goals pipeline significant events and priority portfolio status & risks reporting.
- Supports evolving automation and digital tools to take the work out of the system for pipeline reporting at the portfolio project and study levels.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Data Science Statistics Mathematic Computer Engineering/Computer Science Business Finance or a related quantitative field (Required)
- 5 years of progressive experience in biopharmaceutical industry with demonstrated experience in operational planning data analytics strategic insights business analytics or a related field (Required)
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) (Required)
Experience
- Proven track record of working in a matrix environment where a high degree of collaboration (Required)
- Experience working with operational datasets including project timelines financial data resourcing and unstructured data (Required)
- Advanced prompting skills to generate insights and streamline work using tools like Claude or Co-pilot (Required)
- Strong personal skills to motivate others and manage conflict (Required)
- Strong written and oral communication skills (Required)
- Experience in drug development medical device biotechnology or healthcare field (Preferred)
- Experience in integrated program planning portfolio management or finance management (Preferred)
- Proven ability to analyze develop and contribute to development of conceptual plans and lead implementation of process improvements (Preferred)
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience building and deploying automated dashboards and reporting using Power BI Spotfire or equivalent BI platforms (Required)
- Advanced SQL proficiency: ability to write complex queries joins subqueries and aggregations against relational databases (e.g. Databricks AWS SQL Server Snowflake or equivalent) (Required)
- Data storytelling expertise: proven ability to craft narratives from data that build shared understanding and drive cross-functional alignment using frameworks such as SCR (Situation-Complication-Resolution) or the Pyramid Principle (Required)
- Experience with low-code/no-code automation tools (e.g. PowerAutomate Co-pilot agents) to build scalable data workflows (Required)
- Proficiency in Python or R for statistical modeling automation scripting and API-based data ingestion (Preferred)
- Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Snowflake Databricks AWS or Azure) and integration with BI tools (Preferred)
- Familiarity of clinical trial data structures CTMS or R&D operational systems (e.g. Veeva Planisware Anaplan) (Preferred)

Compensation Overview:
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job such as required skills where the job is performed the employees work schedule job-related knowledge and experience. The final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience and in accordance with pay equity principles and applicable employment laws.
