About this Unit:

7MHC is a 46-bed unit that cares for cardio-thoracic patients after surgery. We specialize in both cardiac pulmonary and transplant care. Our primary patient populations are post-operative coronary artery bypass (CABG) cardiac valve surgeries lung surgeries heart and lung transplant and VAD patients (an artificial heart pump). We admit post-surgical patients day of surgery after the cardiovascular recovery unit or from the Cardiothoracic ICU (CTCC) depending on their procedure and clinical needs. If a patient needs intensive care they are transferred to CTCC and return to us when their condition has stabilized. Our patients are very complex and require medical physical and emotional support.

Scope of work

The Unit Secretary is the point person on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include taking phone calls helping with directions to all visitors and outside team members to the unit (lab radiology patient transport nutrition services environmental services etc) calling support when directed by clinical staff assisting with discharge/admit/transfer paperwork ordering supplies ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked and answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs.

This role may require some orientation with a slightly different schedule than the core schedule while orienting to the unit.

Week 9: Thursday Friday Saturday

Week 10: Sunday Monday Thursday

Week 11: Monday Thursday Friday

Week 12: Thursday Friday Saturday

Qualifications Required

Required High School Diploma or equivalent.
2 years of relevant experience preferred
