Position Overview:
We are looking for a hands-on operationally savvy Financial Controller to join our leadership team. This is not a back-office role the ideal candidate has thrived in startup or small-company environments built and refined processes from the ground up and isnt afraid to roll up their sleeves. You will own the day-to-day financial operations of the company while also contributing to broader operational and administrative functions that keep the business running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Own the full accounting cycle general ledger accounts payable/receivable payroll and month-end close
- Manage cash flow forecasting daily cash positioning and bank reconciliations
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly quarterly and annual financial statements
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls and accounting policies
- Participate in annual budgeting and financial planning processes in partnership with leadership and FP&A Manager
- Coordinate with tax advisors and banking partners
Team & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Directly manage and mentor a small finance/accounting team
- Partner with operations and sales leadership to provide financial insights that drive business decisions
- Support HR administrative functions including benefits administration onboarding documentation and compliance tracking as needed
- Assist with operational initiatives and special projects at the direction of senior leadership
Process & Systems
- Identify gaps in existing financial processes and implement scalable improvements
- Maintain and optimize accounting systems and tools; experience with QuickBooks NetSuite or similar platforms preferred
- Ensure compliance with federal state and local regulatory requirements
- Support licensing permitting and contract administration as needed in coordination with operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field
- 89 years of progressive finance/accounting experience
- Minimum 5 years in a Controller or equivalent leadership role
- Demonstrated experience in a startup or small-company environment (under 200 employees)
- Strong command of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Hands-on experience with bank reconciliation cash management and financial close processes
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Preferred
- CPA or CMA certification
- Experience in healthcare waste management logistics or a service-based industry
- Familiarity with HR administrative processes and people operations
- Prior experience in a Chief of Staff Director of Finance or hybrid operational-finance role
- Track record of building finance teams and processes in a growing company
