Role Overview
The Senior Accountant will serve as a key accounting and operational support partner across the organizations multifamily real estate portfolio.
This role is focused heavily on multifamily real estate accounting. The ideal candidate must understand full-cycle accounting controls financial statement management balance sheet oversight and operational accounting processes within a real estate environment.
The selected candidate will help oversee day-to-day accounting workflows maintain accurate financial reporting support month-end processes and supervise one junior accounting team member. Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle multifamily real estate accounting processes
- Prepare and review:
- Profit & Loss statements
- Balance sheets
- Income and expense reporting
- General ledger reconciliations
- Month-end and year-end close activities
- Maintain strong accounting controls and reporting accuracy across multiple entities
- Oversee financial record integrity and operational accounting workflows
- Support ongoing process improvement initiatives and accounting organization
- Supervise and support one junior/staff accountant
- Coordinate closely with leadership on financial reporting and operational accounting priorities
- Assist with intercompany accounting and entity-level financial management
- Ensure accounting deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners as needed
Required Hard Skills
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience
- Strong multifamily real estate accounting experience required
- Deep understanding of:
- General ledger accounting
- Financial statement preparation
- Balance sheets
- Income statements
- Month-end close processes
- Accounting controls and reconciliations
- Experience overseeing or mentoring junior accounting staff
- Strong Excel and financial systems proficiency
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within multifamily real estate ownership property management or real estate investment environments
- Prior experience with AppFolio is highly preferred but not required
- Experience with Yardi MRI QuickBooks or similar accounting/property management platforms is a plus
- CPA or equivalent accounting designation is a plus but not required
- Experience working within smaller fast-growing organizations preferred
- Experience supporting multiple entities or property portfolios
