Main Purpose of Job

These positions provide system andschool level leadership and statewide support for improving mathematicsinstruction and student outcomes in Maryland and play critical role inadvancing the states mathematics priorities including those outlined in theMaryland PreK-12 Mathematics Policy and the Blueprint for Marylands Future.

The MathematicsSchool Improvement Network Specialistssupport the design and delivery of the Mathematics School Improvement Networkwhich builds the capacity of school leadership teams to improve the quality ofmath instruction and student outcomes in collaboration with district leaderswith an intense focus on schools in improvement status. This work serves as aprimary lever to strengthen instructional practice and ultimately increasestudent learning. The role includes designing and delivering professionallearning and aligned coaching for school leadership teams includingadministrators instructional/math coaches and identified lead math teachers.

POSITION DUTIES

Reports to the Assistant Director ofMathematics Coaching and works in close collaboration with MSDEs Mathematics and Systemsof Instructional Coherence Branch MSDE Division of Instructional Programscolleagues LEA leaders and external partners to ensure coherence buildshared ownership and support improved mathematics outcomes for Marylandsstudents.

  • Serves as a strategic partner to LEA leadership to support the design implementation and continuous improvement of Marylands Math School Improvement Network to support the states mathematics priorities.
  • Designs and delivers professional learning experiences and aligned leadership professional development for local school system leadership teams administrators instructional/math coaches and identified math lead teachers to build the capacity to improve the quality of math instruction and student outcomes.
  • Develops resources tools and aligned training materials to ensure statewide coherence in coaching models and expectations.
  • Collaborates with district leadership teams to align professional learning curriculum implementation and coaching supports to evidence-based mathematics instructional practices.
  • Facilitates and contributes to the development of local mathematics instruction implementation infrastructures using coaching frameworks instructional walkthrough tools and continuous improvement cycles.
  • Reviews and provide feedback on LEA math plans data reports and implementation deliverables to ensure coherence with state priorities.
  • Supports the Director of Mathematics and Assistant Director of Mathematics Coaching in managing key projects preparing policy guidance and organizing statewide mathematics events and convenings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Mastersdegree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours ofpost-baccalaureatecoursework in mathematics STEM education or a related area from an accreditedcollege or university.

Experience:Fouryears of administrative or teaching experience in oraffiliated with mathematicsprograms in prekindergarten through 12 settings or related areas.

Notes:
  1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelors Degree with 7 years of the specified content experience to satisfy the Minimum Qualifications noted above.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the position option for one year of the requiredexperience.
  3. The required field of education and experience are unique foreach option and are established by MSDE in accordance withEducation Article Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code ofMaryland. The specific education and experiencequalifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of BusinessServices.
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialtycodes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Oneyear of teaching experience in a Kindergarten through 8th Grade MathematicsEducation Program.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given toapplicantswho possess the following preferred qualification(s). Pleaseinclude clear and specific information on your application regardingyourqualifications.
  • Experience with Kindergarten through 8th Grade mathematics programs and curriculum.
  • Experience in teaching environments as an Instructional Coach Mathematics Department Chair or Administrator that supported Mathematics Instruction.
  • Experience aligning Instruction to Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and Frameworks for Mathematics and Knowledge of college and career readiness pathways standards trends regulations policies and issues related to mathematics and STEM fields of study.
  • Experience implementing monitoring evaluating and providing high quality and service level-based support and technical assistance for education programs including professional learning aligned to research-based math instructional practices.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse communities and organizations for the purpose of implementing programs and strategies. and developing and delivering research based and best-in-class professional development programs.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicantsmust consent to State and FBI (CJIS) background check as a routine procedurefor all employees.

Thisposition requires travel throughout the State of Maryland and throughoutdesignated Counties to support teachers within individual school(s) and overseethe effective implementation of Mathematics initiatives.
