Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

The Community Ministry Worker (Canada Summer Jobs) position will be crucial to the planning and implementation of both our Sports Camp and our Back-to-School program. They will also play an important role in the regular running of our Resource Centre.

This a Fixed Term Contract Position.

Summer Jobs Program requirements apply. Individuals who required employer-specific work authorization (e.g. international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements including age and legal status criteria.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all some or similar range of duties.

  • Through empathetic care and with a non- judgemental approach conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family and financials) determining immediate and ongoing needs and supports in accordance with policy
  • Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. food clothing etc.) in accordance with policy
  • Provides ongoing support to clients and families as needed
  • Encourages clients/families to participate in programs and services offered by our Resource Centre as well as our Church
  • Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records in the Link2Feed database
  • Assists in the organization maintenance and general cleanliness of the Resource Centre Office and The Salvation Army building
  • Registers clients for Sports Camp and Back-to-School using database programs including Excel
  • Participates in leading Sports Camp including daily registration set-up and clean up and participating in the sports
  • Makes phone calls sends emails and approaches potential sponsors in person for donations for Back-to-School
  • Encourages participation in Sports Camp and the Back-to-School program by promoting them through phone contacts agency visits and additional opportunities.
  • Chaperone bus transportation of camp participants to and from our summer camp
  • Post event and program communication to donors volunteers and participants
  • Participate in debriefing and closure of events and programs
  • Emergency Disaster Services support including food preparation and services
  • Cleans and sanitizes the vehicle after taking it out to meet requirements
  • Ability to compose written communication including donation requests and appreciation letter
  • Performs other duties as required (including conducting other programs for client/families as appropriate)

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
Minor material responsibility.
Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.

Donation pick ups as well as receiving (and/or declines) and sorting/organizing non-monetary donations


The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Armys Mission Statement in a professional manner upholding our code of conduct.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working environment is typically in the corps building in generally agreeable conditions and some outdoor duties.
Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
May deal with upset people or challenging behaviours.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Completion of High School.
CPR First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.

Completion of our online Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
Experience and Knowledge:
Minimum 6 months related experience working with children families and vulnerable population.


Skills and Capabilities:
Represent the organization in a positive professional and engaging manner.
Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills have strong oral/written communication skills.
Understanding of individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
Good team player.
Good oral and writing skills.

Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
