Job Summary
Job Title:Student Advisor - High School Program
Retirees of the Texas Teachers Retirement System (TRS) may apply.Consistent with district policy SD-7.17 Employment of Retirees selected applicants are responsible for reimbursing the district through payroll deduction for the current rate of all TRS pension or TRS Care surcharges. As of September 1 2025 the TRS pension surcharge rate is 16.5% and the TRS Care surcharge is $535/month.
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Pay Group: A45Salary Plan
Primary Purpose:To provide student support and enhance student achievement by appropriately advising assessing and enrolling students into high school academic life skills and career and technical education programs. Support to include providing campus orientation to new students and developing college and career pathways with students.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Experience:
Masters degreefrom a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
Standard School Counselor certificateissued by SBEC or University approval for issuance of an Intern or Probationary School Counselor certificate(ApplicantMUSTinclude a letter fromfrom the college/university with the application indicating they meet probationary certificate eligibility by acceptance in the certification program.)
This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
Knowledge of school district organization operations policies and procedures.
Skill to interpret and apply rules regulations policies and procedures.
Ability to organize and maintain accurate records.
Ability to demonstrate effectiveness as a professional role model.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Identify assess and enroll students in programming most conducive to their educational needs.

3. Support district-wide goals and objectives for school and organizational climate and comply with district policies in the placement of students.
4. Provide teachers and students with effective resources and assessments for collegeand career planning development and readiness.

status as State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness(STAAR) and General Educational Development (GED) examiner and other assessments as determined appropriate and coordinate the campus testing program.
7. Develop working relationships with teachers and assist them in effectively addressing student misconduct.
the principal with campus leadership to include but not limited to; providing professional development represent campus at TDCJ and/or WSD meetings monitoring campus accountability and Campus Improvement Plan development and monitoring.
9. Serve as representative of administration as appropriate for Admission Review and Dismissal committees and any other committees determining student placement.

11. Attend and participate in staff development provided by the district and other agencies.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

14. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily punctual attendance at location of work assignment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:May supervise activities of the Testing Specialist Testing Clerk and Intake (Admin) Clerk at the discretion of the principal.
