Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Director of Quality Strategy System leads the implementation of system-wide quality patient safety and performance improvement initiatives across Boston Medical Center (BMC) Health System. This role contributes to the development and execution of enterprise quality strategies by translating complex data into actionable insights and driving cross-functional initiatives that support safe patient-centered timely equitable effective and efficient care delivery across hospitals ambulatory sites and affiliated entities.
Operating with a high degree of independence the role applies advanced expertise in quality safety and performance improvement to identify trends risks and opportunities and recommend solutions that enhance outcomes and operational effectiveness. The Director partners with clinical operational and administrative leaders to implement scalable programs strengthen existing governance structures and advance a culture of continuous improvement and reliability.
This role serves as a subject matter expert to senior leadership providing data-driven recommendations and supporting decision-making aligned with organizational priorities regulatory requirements and performance goals.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Quality Performance Analysis and Insights: Leads the analysis of quality patient safety risk and performance data by synthesizing inputs from multiple sources (e.g. safety events clinical outcomes patient experience accreditation findings). Identifies trends risks and performance gaps and develops actionable recommendations to support quality improvement and operational priorities.

  • Quality Program Implementation: Leads the implementation of system-level quality and patient safety initiatives that address clinical and operational priorities. Partners with cross-functional stakeholders to deploy scalable interventions and improve outcomes across care settings.

  • Cross-Functional Initiative Leadership: Leads complex cross-functional projects involving clinical operational and administrative stakeholders. Collaborates across departments to drive alignment facilitate execution and ensure progress toward quality and safety objectives.

  • Governance and Accountability Support: Supports the development enhancement and ongoing execution of quality governance structures including committees reporting processes and escalation pathways. Promotes accountability and alignment between site-level and system-level quality efforts.

  • Culture of Safety and Reliability: Leads initiatives that support the adoption and sustainment of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles across departments and care settings. Partners with leadership and human resources to integrate safety and continuous improvement practices into operations and training.

  • Executive Reporting and Decision Support: Develops and delivers executive-level reports dashboards and presentations that provide actionable insights for senior leadership and governance bodies. Supports decision-making related to quality priorities risk mitigation and performance improvement.

  • Regulatory and External Alignment: Ensures quality initiatives align with regulatory accreditation and national standards including The Joint Commission Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Participates in external forums and collaboratives to support organizational quality objectives.

  • Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement: Supports the advancement of quality and patient safety practices through participation in internal and external knowledge-sharing activities including presentations publications and collaborative initiatives.

  • Strategic Initiative Support: Leads high-priority quality and safety projects and contributes to broader strategic initiatives as assigned. Provides subject matter expertise and recommendations to support the execution of organizational priorities and enhance system-wide quality capabilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters degree (e.g. MPH MHA MBA PharmD or related field) and a minimum of 710 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare quality patient safety risk management performance improvement or health system strategy.

  • Demonstrated experience leading multifaceted quality initiatives influencing senior leaders and managing complex stakeholder environments.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in complex academic or multi-hospital system strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of healthcare quality patient safety risk management and performance improvement methodologies

  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g. Joint Commission CMS)

  • Skill in analyzing and synthesizing complex multi-source data to identify trends and inform strategy

  • Skill in developing executive-level reports dashboards and presentations

  • Ability to design and implement system-level programs and governance structures

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority

  • Ability to integrate multiple disciplines (clinical operational analytical) to drive enterprise initiatives

Compensation Range:

$122000.00- $177000.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
