Job Summary

Title: High School Success Liaison

The Kansas City Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22000 students and 60 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings.

With Head Start/preschools 28 elementary schools 7 middle schools and 5 college and career academies/high schools we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic 24% African American 9% White and 6% Asian. To serve our students the district employs approximately 4000 employees including more than 1800 teachers.

Job Goal:

To ensure each student graduates with a personalized actionable post-secondary plan aligned to the KCKPS Diploma initiative by supporting students navigating pathways that lead to college enrollment industry-recognized certification military enlistment or gainful employment. The High School Success Liaison serves as a key advisor connector and advocate for students guiding them through the college and career readiness journey from 9th to 12th grade. This role provides postsecondary access support and doesnotdeliver academic social-emotional or crisis counseling services

Essential Functions: Some of these functions will be in support of the school counselors.

College & Career Advising

  • Support students starting in 9th grade through college and career exploration planning and goal-setting.
  • Support all seniors to complete post-secondary applications (college trade military or employment)
  • Facilitate FAFSA completion scholarship applications ACT registration and essay preparation.
  • Assist with college applications and maintain transcript/document request systems.
  • Support the completion of readiness indicators using the district college and career platform.
  • Develop and maintain a welcoming Success Center that supports all students and families.

Postsecondary Partnerships & Dual/Concurrent Enrollment

  • Serve as the building-level point of contact and liaison for KCKCC TEC and other dual/concurrent programs in coordination with the districts designated Diploma program coordinator
  • Partner with KCKCC to support dual/concurrent enrollment orientation placement scheduling and progress monitoring.
  • Collaborate with instructors staff and families to ensure student success in advanced coursework.
  • Participate in the master schedule planning related to dual credit and technical education courses.

Data Tracking & Program Accountability

  • Collect and analyze student outcome data: FAFSA scholarships Xello college applications dual credit certifications etc.
  • Report progress toward the Success Center indicators for building leadership frequently (FAFSA scholarships D/C enrollment etc.).
  • Maintain visitation and usage logs for the Success Center.

Student Family and Community Engagement

  • Partner closely with FACES to help build trusted relationships with students and families to ensure inclusive advising.

  • Communicate regularly about key opportunities deadlines and next steps.
  • Plan and support postsecondary access events such as FAFSA completion events college fairs military panels and campus visits.
  • Serve as one of the primary points of contact for TRIO programs military branches colleges and universities while supporting students with advising.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve on the schools leadership team to embed college and career readiness into academic culture including AVID courses.

  • Represent the building at district-level Diploma and post-secondary planning meetings.
  • Align all work with district priorities related to equity opportunity and postsecondary success.
  • Collaborate with school counselors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required; Masters preferred.
  • Kansas Educator License preferred OR 5 years of verified experience in education workforce development or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of National College and Career Readiness Standards and Diploma initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Diploma college and career platforms and FAFSA tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with diverse student populations and stakeholders.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication (written & verbal) interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and use data to inform advising and intervention.
  • Experience planning events and coordinating complex systems across teams.
  • Cultural competency and commitment to educational equity and access

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to sit walk talk and listen in a dynamic school setting.
  • May lift/move up to 50 lbs. and travel to homes colleges or events as needed.
  • Must be able to navigate varied work environments with moderate to high noise levels.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the schools mission.
