About the role:

Reporting to the Senior Project Lead Calcite the Water Planning Lead (Engineer or Scientist) is responsible for leading the development and implementation of water strategies and management plans. This role will guide water treatment water management and fish and fish habitat projects in alignment with EVRs strategic priorities and our commitments to the communities in which we operate and relevant provincial and federal regulations such as the Environmental Management Act.

To be successful we are looking for someone with good leadership and communication skills strong analytical and influence abilities with a capacity for practical problem-solving. As the role will work in close connection with other teams the Water Planning Lead (Engineer or Scientist) will be part of a team dedicated to sustainable mining in the Elk Valley with particular focus on water quality fisheries and fish habitat remediation and the overall health of the regional aquatic ecosystem. Strong multi-taking teamwork and environmental project management experience is vital for the success of this role.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Lead and collaborate with EVRs Coal Operations Research and Development Projects Water Treatment Operations Modelling Aquatic Sciences Fish Populations and Habitat Permitting and Reclamation teams to lead the development implementation and execution of the water quality strategies and management plans
  • Provide technical review for nickel and calcite related reports permit applications and support the implementation of water and habitat treatment
  • Engage with regulatory agencies and Indigenous communities to share progress and gather feedback to inform the direction of the programs
  • Lead internal scopes of work and manage third-party consultants to complete studies that reduce program uncertainties mitigate business risk and align with EVRs adaptive management cycle
  • Ensure projects are being conducted in accordance with project scope and Health Environment Safety and Community (HESC) commitments
  • Uphold EVRs contractor management and financial reporting policies to ensure the programs are delivered on time and within budget.Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies

Requirements:

  • Engineering or Science degree in an environment related field such as Ecology Biology Geology Engineering (environmental civil mechanical chemical or mining) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Relevant professional accreditation or eligible for accreditation such as the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC) or BC College of Applied Biologists (BC CAB)
  • Minimum Five years experience leading project development and implementation at progressing levels of responsibility and scope
  • Experience in mining water wastewater and/or environmental projects would be considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent
Salary: $101440 / year

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidates relevant experience skills and competencies and considers internal equity.
