Laboratory Aide Support (Tech)

POSITION SUMMARY :

Under the general supervision of the Histology Laboratory Manager the LST is responsible for providing quality customer oriented laboratory services including specimen procurement specimen processing and related specialized procedures case assembly slide distribution change H&E setup file slides and service to effectively communicate information to users of the Laboratory Services in order to ensure the department is able to operate efficiently and to successfully fulfill its mission. LSTs also provide training and guidance to less experienced laboratory support technicians.

Schedule: Full Time

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:

Transport specimens between grossing processing embedding and staining areas

Assist with loading/unloading tissue processors (as permitted by policy)

Organize and store paraffin blocks and glass slides

Retrieve archived slides/blocks for pathologists or send-outs

Package specimens slides and blocks for referral testing

Assist with specimen tracking and chain-of-custody documentation

Verify patient identifiers and specimen labeling for accuracy and compliance

Prepare cassettes labels and paperwork for histology processing

JOB REQUIRMENTS

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma

CERTIFICATIONS REGISTRATIONS & LICENSURES:

• Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP) preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• One year of Phlebotomy EKG and/or specimen processing experience is preferred.

Compensation Range:
