Pima Countys Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) is proud to be an award-winning industry leader in the management and sustainability of the water reclamation cycle and other renewable resources. As a Wastewater Technical Trainer you will be responsible for developing delivering and evaluating the training to Wastewater Operations and Maintenance Technicians as well as other RWRD Treatment personnel. The selected candidate will deliver direct instruction on wastewater theory and facility operations and maintenance both in a classroom and field setting as part of a career development and state regulatory-required certifications. This position is also responsible for creating and developing multi-modal training content instructional materials and presentations for both in-person verbal and written communication combined with a strong aptitude for public speaking. Essential Functions:

Identifies and prioritizes training needs programs or strategies based on regulatory and departmental requirements;
Collaborates with internal teams and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with department goals and objectives;
Designs develops delivers and updates technical training curricula materials and evaluations using fundamental principles of the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and conveyance systems processes equipment and machinery;
Provides technical and practical training for the purposes of obtaining licensing certifications credentials or endorsements that are required of Department employees;
Uses various digital tools and platforms to research and develop training materials for a variety of settings and uses relevant computer software programs and applications for training documentation file and database management and report preparation;
Possesses sound knowledge and understanding of the subject matter taught; participates in professional development to enhance skills knowledge and to stay updated on new technologies and best practices;
Evaluates external materials and texts for use may coordinate the provision of training by other external sources;
Uses principles and practices of employee supervision training and evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience as a teacher/instructor in one or more STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) disciplines or as an instructor/trainer in related industrial job training.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
Two years of experience in the operation or maintenance of an advanced complex wastewater/water facility or related industry/facility as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment INCLUDING one year of experience performing lead supervisory and/or training duties (supervisory/training experience may be concurrent).
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
One year of experience with Pima County in an Operations & Maintenance Technician II Utility Maintenance Worker III Industrial Wastewater Inspector Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II Conveyance Systems Monitoring II or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Experience in teaching environmental science ecology biology medical fields hydrology geology or agriculture instructing industry-related job training through CTE JTED trade schools or holding ADEQ Grade 2 certification in Wastewater Collections Water Treatment and/or Water Distribution Certification.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint Word Excel Teams) or other educational/training development software.
Minimum one (1) experience developing curriculum and associated training materials.
Minimum one (1) year experience providing communication in either verbal or written format and delivering information to the public.
Minimum one (1) year experience presenting developed (pre-developed/existing) training materials.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record. Conveyance-specific and Treatment Operations-specific positions requires maintaining a valid Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 3 Wastewater Treatment System Operator certification or ADEQ Grade 3 Wastewater Collection System Operator certification. The position requires a valid Arizona Class D driver license and a commercial drivers license (CDL) with a tanker endorsement as identified by the appointing authority at the time of application or appointment. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks.
