TheMaersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications for positions as Associate Professor in AI for Health and Medical Technologies.

SDU Health Informatics and Technology(HIT) strives to develop novel and ready-to-deploy technical solutions in a transdisciplinary manner. SDU HIT has a large portfolio of transdisciplinary projects involving numerous partners from healthcare academia industry and network organizations.

The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute is an internationally recognized research department with strong research units in robotics drones artificial intelligence software engineering energy informatics and health informatics and technology.

Job description and expected profile

Successful candidates are expected to lead an innovative research program in health informatics digital health systems and AI-driven medical technologies with a strong record of developing clinically relevant machine learning models. The role includes active collaboration with colleagues and management to attract external research funding supported by the candidates documented success in securing major national and international grants.

Candidates for this position must have a solid research background within (at least one preferably several of) the following fields:

  • Health Informatics and Digital Health Systems
  • AI-Driven Clinical Decision Support and Medical Technologies
  • Clinical Natural Language Processing and Generative AI
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR) Analytics and Population-Level Health Data Science
  • Multimodal and Integrative Machine Learning for Healthcare
  • Medical Image Processing and Computer Vision
  • Disease Modelling Progression Analysis and Trajectory Modelling

The successful applicant will be expected to provide outstanding education supervise bachelor master and PhD level students.

Candidates for this position must have a solid education that enables them to teach within (at least one preferably several of) the following fields:

  • Health Informatics and Digital Health
  • HumanMachine Interaction (decision support system user-centred design)
  • Programming applied machine learning and data-driven system development

Candidates must hold a PhD.

In the assessment of candidates consideration will be given to:

  • Research demonstrated by publications in relevant scientific journals and conferences
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research collaboration
  • Teaching experience
  • A relevant international network for research and collaboration activities research experience abroad
  • Experience in attracting funding for research projects and demonstrated experience in research leadership

Overall the candidate brings a strong combination of technical expertise clinical collaboration experience extensive publication and grant success and leadership in applied AI for healthcare making them well suited for this position.

Conditions of employment

Appointment as an associate professor is permanent and the preferred start date is from October 1 2026 but can be modified in agreement with the successful candidate.

Employment as an associate professor requires academic qualifications at PhD level as well as scientific and teaching qualificationscommensurate with the position as an associate will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state including the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for associate professor as described therein.Further information on salary and employed in the position may based on a specific individual managerial assessment be exempted from time registration also known as a self-organizer.
