Apprentice Quantity Surveyor (Highways)

Fixed Term Contract 3 Years

About the Role

Wirral Council is offering an exciting apprenticeship opportunity within the Highways Service for an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor. This role will support the delivery of administrative and commercial duties that underpin the Highways Operational Service.

This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to build a longterm career in construction quantity surveying or commercial management while gaining a nationally recognised qualification and hands-on experience in a public sector environment.

You will develop a broad understanding of highways contracts commercial processes and financial controls supporting the effective delivery of highways maintenance and improvement works across the borough.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor you will assist with a range of commercial and administrative activities including:

  • Supporting payment assessments and financial processes
  • Assisting with the preparation of tender documentation
  • Analysing variations and supporting cost control activities
  • Maintaining accurate commercial and financial records
  • Developing commercial skills and an understanding of highways contract management
  • Supporting the delivery of high-quality highways maintenance and improvement works

Full training and guidance will be provided as you develop your skills and knowledge.

Training and Development

Alongside your day-to-day role you will complete the Construction Quantity Surveying Technician (Level 4) Apprenticeship. This will support the development of your technical knowledge commercial awareness and professional skills.

You will be fully supported throughout your apprenticeship and encouraged to develop professionally while playing an active role in delivering high-quality public services for Wirrals communities. You will also act as an ambassador for apprenticeships within Wirral.

About the Candidate

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in quantity surveying construction or highways maintenance. You will be someone who:

  • Is keen to learn and develop new skills
  • Is comfortable working with numbers and data
  • Can communicate clearly with a range of people
  • Is able to follow instructions and manage their workload effectively
  • Can work independently as well as part of a team
