Senior Optical Reliability Engineer, OISL Reliability

Amazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). We are building the next generation of optical interconnect systems and reliability is at the heart of what we do. We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Optical Reliability Engineer to join our OISL Reliability this role you will be responsible for ensuring the long-term reliability and performance of optical systems components and subsystems including optical amplifiers and laser-based technologies. You will work cross-functionally with design systems and test engineering teams to develop and execute reliability strategies that meet product quality and lifetime requirements. Key job responsibilities
Develop implement and maintain reliability models and frameworks for optical and electrical components
Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) fault tree analysis (FTA) and root cause analysis (RCA) for optical systems and subsystems
Define and execute accelerated life testing (ALT) and highly accelerated life testing (HALT) programs for optical components
Apply reliability growth models Weibull analysis and other statistical tools to predict and improve product lifetime
Collaborate with system-level engineering teams to assess and improve overall system reliability and availability
Establish reliability requirements and verification plans for new product development programs
Develop and maintain reliability documentation including test plans reports and specifications
Support qualification and validation activities for optical and electrical components and assemblies
Communicate reliability findings and recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


- Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
- Bachelors degree in Physics Electrical Engineering Optical Engineering or a related field
- Experience with optics opto-electronics and electronics
- Experience with reliability engineering principles including reliability models failure distributions and statistical analysis
- Experience with system-level reliability concepts including reliability block diagrams and system availability modeling
- Experience with reliability analysis tools and methodologies (e.g. Weibull ReliaSoft FMEA FTA)
- Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g. Python MATLAB JMP or equivalent)

- Masters or PhD in Physics Electrical Engineering Optical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Experience with electrical design and optical communication systems
- Familiarity with industry reliability standards (e.g. Telcordia GR-468 MIL-HDBK-217 IEC 61709 SMS MIL-STD-785)
- Prior experience in a hardware reliability or component engineering role within the optical communications or aerospace industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience qualifications and location.
