Job Description:

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements including age and legal status who required employer-specific work authorization (e.g. international students on study permits) are not eligible under this program. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Work cooperatively as Summer Students with the staff of The Willows Family Life Centre to promote holistic care for families within the Langley - Cloverdale community. Engage with program participants in ways that represent our values of dignity service stewardship and hope. Design plan promote and implement a summer day camp enrichment program at the Willows Family Life Centre. Seven different Day Camp weeks will include specialized programming for kindergarten children elementary children and youth. Build relationships with and provide competent supervision to at-risk and neurodivergent children & youth collaborating with our other staff and volunteers to make our camp a positive and inclusive experience.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Incorporate daily physical activity into the rhythm of the camps.
  • Coordinate and lead various group games and recreational exercises.
  • Set up and clean up of activities both indoor and outdoor.
  • Coach an afternoon soccer program at a local park(4 weeks)
  • Assist with the registration process.
  • Follow daily program schedule.
  • Purchase and prepare supplies.
  • Managing the indoor/outdoor environment to assure appropriate health and safety requirements are met.
  • Interaction with parents coaching children and communication with teammates is required throughout.
  • Dealing with behavioural concerns of children and youth if they arise during program participation at day camp in conjunction with the Program Coordinator.
  • Participate in staff debriefing meetings

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will need to be between 15-30 years old and eligible to work in Canada as the job is contingent upon Canada Summer Jobs program funding
  • Completion of high school diploma.
  • First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Background check consent.
  • Completion of TSA online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
  • Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Secord Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Experience working with children knowledge of child development and ways to engaging neurodiverse learners in a range of activities and environments.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Teamwork the skills needed to interact with other people work with others in pairs and in small and large groups to coordinate tasks share resources plan make decisions negotiate solve conflicts and complete other activities that involve teamwork.
  • Adaptability the ability to adjust goals and behaviors when expected or unexpected change occurs by planning staying focused persisting and overcoming setbacks.
  • Collaboration the ability to contribute and support others to achieve a common goal.

  • Problem- solving the ability to identify analyze propose solutions and make decisions to address issues monitor success and learn from experience.
  • Communication the skills needed to exchange thoughts and information with other people orally by speaking listening and using non-verbal cues such as body language or in writing.
  • Leadership the skills needed for communication relationship building and the ability to delegate. Traits such as honesty demonstrating initiative and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks are developing.
  • Knowledge of child development and ways to engaging neurodiverse learners in a range of activities and environments
  • Character setting a good example for the campers with traits such as honesty initiative using time wisely and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks.
  • Knowledge of the rules and skills for coaching children and youth soccer are an asset.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
