This is a contract-funded position supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of the Chief Medical Officer.

THE ROLE
PSCG is hiring caring dependable and bilingual Child Caregivers to provide direct daily care for unaccompanied children (UC) and minor children of family units in the temporary custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. You will work inside designated U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) facilities along the southwest border providing trauma-informed care at the level expected of a state-licensed daycare adapted for a federal facility environment. The children you support from newborns through age 17 are often tired scared and far from home. Your patience attentiveness and professionalism directly affect their safety and well-being during one of the most stressful moments of their lives.
WHAT YOULL DO
Provide initial and daily orientation to assigned children and explain facility expectations and routines in a calm age-appropriate way.
Monitor and assist children during shower and hygiene routines in strict compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) including same-gender assistance for children who cannot bathe independently and contactless monitoring for those who can.
Assist tender-age children and infants with diapering toileting handwashing feeding (including bottle feeding) and other daily care needs.
Issue and collect Government-furnished hygiene supplies towels and clean clothing; store and reissue clothing while items are being laundered.
Bag and stage dirty laundry for pickup (third-party laundering Caregivers do not perform laundering).
Help distribute meals snacks juice milk and drinking water; respond promptly to childrens basic needs as they arise.
Supervise recreation and quiet activities (reading drawing age-appropriate play); use discretion to offer warm clothing or blankets to a child who appears cold.
Communicate each childs rights to use the telephone and to request medical attention at least twice daily; document each communication in the required tracking log.
Maintain accurate logs and documentation: orientation communication and rights hygiene and personal care nutrition and meals clothing and comfort and supervision and support.
Maintain inventory of clothing towels and hygiene kits; notify USBP staff of low stock so resupply can be initiated before shortages affect care.
Refer any suspected or reported medical dental or mental health concern to USBP personnel or on-site medical staff immediately.
Maintain a safe clean working environment and adhere to all DHS CBP and facility safety and health protocols at all times.
WHAT YOU NEED
High school diploma or equivalent (GED accepted) and a valid drivers license.
Minimum 18 years of age with current immunization records.
Bilingual English and Spanish. Effective verbal communication with children and adults in both languages is required.
Ability to pass a CBP federal Background Investigation (BI). Includes fingerprinting e-QIP submission and review of personal financial and criminal history. Favorable adjudication required prior to start.
Physical ability to bend stand walk and sit for extended periods; lift up to 40 pounds; and see and hear well enough to maintain continuous visual contact with children.
Strong interpersonal skills patience empathy professionalism and the ability to remain calm with distressed children and during high-tempo shift changes.
Willingness to complete required training within 30 days of hire in personal care and toileting basic hygiene and infection control environmental safety basic first aid and emergency procedures recognition of abuse and neglect trauma-informed care and PREA compliance.
