About the role

The Director Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) leads the performance integration evaluation and continuous improvement of commissioned mental health services and programs across the NWMPHN region. This role is responsible for advancing person-centred stepped care models that are coordinated across primary care and community settings.

Reporting to the Executive Director Service Development & Reform you will work collaboratively across Service Development and Reform teams internal teams and with external stakeholders to implement mental health and AOD initiatives. You will identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate across the organisation and with external stakeholders to improve mental health and AOD outcomes in the community.

You will also work closely with multiple stakeholders to understand state and commonwealth department of health policy settings and ensure that the work is carried out in a timely compliant and effective manner.

You will work closely with another Director System Reform and Innovation to provide leadership across the SDR team and work closely together as a team to strengthen service integration improving care and enhancing outcomes in the community.

The successful candidate will have had significant experience in leading a diverse team with a deep appreciation for lived experience and culturally safe ways of working. This role is deeply influential and crucial in ensuring we are delivering right care at the right place and at the right time. You will be comfortable being a bridge between the Executive Team and your team and will know how to build an honest effective and sustainable team.

  • Tertiary qualification in health or mental health is required; an additional qualification in management or leadership is desirable.
  • Experience in Health care or Health care services sector will be highly regarded.
  • Well-developed understanding of the Mental Health and AOD system in Victoria and Australia.
  • Understanding of primary and preventative healthcare and a strong appreciation of its critical role in improving community health outcomes and reducing hospital admissions.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to form effective professional relationships and networks with a broad range of stakeholders across all levels.
  • This role may require offsite travel. Current Drivers License and reliable vehicle is mandatory.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health initiatives impacting diverse communities.
