JOB SUMMARY

Coherent is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to help develop highperformance highreliability pump laser modules used in optical communications systems and fibreoptic network infrastructure. Youll take products from concept through to volume manufacturing working at the intersection of precision mechanics optoelectronics and advanced packaging.

What Youll Do

• Design mechanical assemblies and packaging solutions for fibrecoupled pump laser modules.
• Build and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed mechanical drawings.
• Perform tolerance analysis to ensure manufacturability and longterm coupling stability.
• Develop parts fixtures and jigs to support prototype assembly and characterisation.
• Create thermal and stress models to derisk designs and guide development.
• Carry out labbased optical testing to validate models and product performance.
• Participate in design reviews failure analysis and rootcause investigations.
• Maintain engineering documentation including drawings specifications BOMs and ECOs.

What Youll Bring

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience designing precision or optoelectronic products.
• Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred).
• Familiarity with FEA for thermal and stress modelling.
• Understanding of tolerance analysis and precision mechanical design.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with laser diode packaging or fibrecoupled laser modules.
• Knowledge of telecom reliability standards (e.g. Telcordia GR468).
• Exposure to highvolume manufacturing environments.
