The BWRX-300 Firstline Engineering Manager Plant Controls Steam Turbine & Auxiliary Systems plus Mark* VIe Distributed Control System Design and Implementation will provide leadership to a diverse technical team of dedicated engineers and experts responsible for the requirements management architecture design implementation integration test with rigorous digital systems software IT networks and cyber security quality assurance governance as well as technical oversight of site installation and commissioning of the protection control and monitoring equipment. The team will include an evolving global mix of employees and contractors plus engineering services sub-contractors of specific managed task work packages. The team will be responsible for complete first of a kind (FOAK) standard plant design (SPD) product and customer site specific design (CSSD) projects lifecycle stewardship of the solution including selecting procuring and complete systems integration of all implementing platforms equipment and components. The scope includes non-nuclear protection control and monitoring systems that are designated Safety Class 3 (SC3) and None (SCN) as well as interfacing with key BWR specific SC3 protection control and monitoring systems. The standard plant wide system-of-systems distributed control & information system (DCIS) architecture and design as well as implementing digital and cyber security lifecycle processes are based on the applicable nuclear IEC Standards while enveloping specific complimentary CSA and IEEE Standards. This is a leadership position that contributes to the overall strategy of the business and manages complex issues within the plant systems design focused on the turbine island (TI) with its associated balance of plant (BOP) and interfacing with nuclear (NI).

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Senior Engineering Manager Plant Instrumentation Controls and Electric Power Systems.
  • Have ownership and accountability for the identification definition functional performance environmental seismic software and cyber security requirements specification assessment or evaluation organization by type procurement specifications type and qualification test plans for all types of nuclear related and interfacing protection control and monitoring systems.
  • Have ownership and accountability for the execution of work activities and design reviews with assessment reports risk mitigation action plans and focused design and procurement requirements.
  • Have ownership and accountability for the identification provisioning configuration library management and deployment of the Disciplines specific design and analysis tools.
  • Have ownership and accountability for ensuring complete and accurate requirements documents and design specification are provided to the FOAK product development projects both those performed internally by GEH and externally by third-party suppliers from research and development new technology introduction new product introduction involving prototype pre-production type and qualification testing.
  • Establish the Mark* VIe DCS specific architecture and design as well as the foundation or framework for Implementation or Fulfillment or Requisition Engineering from high level design package turn over thru successful Control System Factory Acceptance Test (CS-FAT).
  • Collaborate with and leverage from both GEV Gas Power Systems Controls Engineering and the QuEST Controls Alliance relevant Mark* VIe DCS specific control systems and implementation design processes guides practices previously developed software e.g.; blockware macros and tools.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for a diverse team by inspiring coaching challenging and developing their knowledge skills and experience or competency depth and breadth.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with other internal engineering teams product management project management sourcing quality finance and other cross- functional leadership and individual stakeholders.
  • Interface with external suppliers partners customers and applicable country specific regulatory agencies as required on technical issues.
  • Identify organize plan schedule and work products then manage the activities or tasks and their assigned resources to ensure engineering deliverables are on-spec on-budget and on-schedule in accordance with contract requirements business or project procedures industry standards and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and manage external resources to ensure the quality of deliverables enable flexibility and improved engineering labor budget cost positions.
  • Support commercial and marketing opportunities to develop new business opportunities.
  • Protect GEHs intellectual property rights trade secrets and related know-how.
  • Support GEH initiatives related to; LEAN simplification process improvement Design To Cost (DTC) and Value Engineering (VE).
  • Support GEH Nuclear Energy quality requirements including participation in design reviews initiating and responding to Corrective Actions.
  • Ensure adherence to GEHs standards for nuclear safety security integrity and compliance.
  • Partner with business teams and present multi- generational product plans (MGPP) or program strategies multi- generational technical development plans (MGTDP) or roadmaps risks mitigation plans and recommendations to improve our competitiveness.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics Mathematics or related Science or technical discipline.
  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in protection controls and monitoring engineering design and related project implementation or fulfillment leadership experience in the power or heavy industry e.g.; oil & gas refining.
  • At least 4 years of experience with the GE Mark* VIe distributed control systems (DCS) product offering or equivalent Tier 1 DCS e.g.; Emerson Ovation Siemens S7 with a focus on leading large and complex systems integration implementation or fulfillment projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • At least 8 years of experience in the nuclear power industry US Department of Energy (DOE) test lab facilities US Nuclear Navy reactor power plant design and construction or equivalent complex large scale new build experience in the power industry.
  • Deep knowledge skill and experience in several areas involving; instrumentation protection control monitoring IEC Standards based digital systems and software process engineering and related plant-wide cyber security engineering design analysis modeling and simulation tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with various design analysis modeling and simulation software tools used for plant design.
  • Understanding of multi- disciplinary and complex systems of systems.
  • Proven ability to be a liaison between organizations that are operating in separate geographic locations.

  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to think strategically be creative and move quickly.

  • Experience with project management skillset including; communication risk work planning scheduling change management.
  • EPC experience and knowledge; specifically power plant.
  • Understanding of nuclear industry and technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to document plan market and manage programs that further the knowledge understanding and capability of the business.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position the pay range for this position is between $134400.00 and $257600.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110% 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidates experience education and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
