The Opportunity
Are you motivated to build modern data solutions that enable informed decision-making The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Specialist Data Engineering to support the design and delivery of scalable data integration and transformation solutions. Joining our Data & Analytics Delivery team this position plays a key role in enabling analytics reporting and operational insights by applying sound engineering practices DevOps principles and cloud-based technologies.
In this role you will contribute to the development and maintenance of enterprise data pipelines across cloud and on-premises environments. Working closely with the Senior Specialist Data Engineering as well as Data Architects Solution Architects and product teams you will help transform raw data into curated reliable information assets aligned with AERs data strategy. This position plays a key role in enabling analytics reporting and operational insights by applying sound engineering practices DevOps principles and cloud-based technologies.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL solutions using Azure-based tools (e.g. Data Factory Databricks Azure Functions) to support enterprise data ingestion and transformation.
Collaborate with architects analysts and developers to translate business requirements into technical data solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and governance standards.
Monitor and optimize performance reliability and quality of data workflows including implementing logging alerting and root cause analysis for data issues.
Participate in peer reviews documentation and continuous improvement initiatives within the Data Engineering practice.
Contribute to agile delivery processes including sprint planning estimation retrospectives and CI/CD pipeline activities.
What were looking for in you:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field and 5 years of handson experience in data engineering data integration and ETL development.
12 years of experience working within agile teams and applying CI/CD automated testing and DevOps practices.
Experience working in Microsoft Azure environments including Azure Data Factory Azure Functions and building data pipelines in Databricks.
Strong technical and analytical skills including SQL proficiency and an understanding of data integration and performance tuning.
Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git Azure DevOps).
Familiarity with data lakes metadata management data quality and enterprise reporting concepts.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
