The Position
Werelooking for aStaff Project Lead Satellite Mission Engineering at our Richmond office to be a part of the next generation ofsatellitemissions.
As thelead for the projectEngineering team the individual will provide technical leadership for end-to-end satellite mission engineeringthrough the lifecycle of the project working with internal stakeholders and suppliers to define requirementsmanageinterfaces drive trade studies and technical decisions and ensure integration and test readiness through launch and early operations. Success in this role is demonstrated by delivering mission milestones on schedule proactively retiring cross-functional risks and maintaining alignment to the approved technical baseline.
Responsibilities
AsaStaff Project Lead Satellite Mission Engineeringyou may have a range of responsibilities that include:
- Provides technical leadership to a multi-disciplined mission team and suite of suppliersin collaboration with the Project Managerand SystemsTechnical Lead
- Interfaces with customers and subcontractors reporting status resolving issues and negotiating changes in technical scope
- Identifiesmanagesand mitigates risks across the mission
- Monitors and controls cost schedule and technical baselines
- Monitor anddefines the workforce loading and assignmentsrequiredthrough thelifecyleof the project
- Defines and enforces an operating system for the mission engineering team to effectively communicate collaborate and solve problems ( tracking and resolution work package management etc.)
- Supports technical and management reviews atalllevelsof assembly
- Supportsin various levels of spacecraft ground system and missionintegration as well as initial on-orbit operations
- Coordinates and brings together the right stakeholders to findoptimalsolutions to both technical and non-technical problems
- Developsteam members through mentoring and coaching
Required Experience
- Degree or advanced degree in engineering or a combination of related education and experience
- At least 12 years experiencedemonstratingincreasing levels of responsibility in engineering of complex mission critical systems
- Experience in managing sub-contractors and suppliers
- Experience managing geographically distributedand multi-disciplined teams
- Experience as a team leader
- Experience in system integration of a complex system composed of multiple subsystems
- Experience in troubleshooting fault isolation problem-solving and critical thinkingskills;
- Experience indifferent typesof engineering lifecycles applicable for large complex programs
- Have excellent communication and customer interaction skills
While not mandatory candidates willbenefitfrom any of the following:
- Applied knowledge of satellite earth observation missions and their operations
- Experience working in development of space missions or spacecraft
- Experienceworking in the manufacture and integration of space missions spacecraft and/or ground segments
- Experience in development of satellite concept of operations operations procedurestrainingand rehearsal plans

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $140000 - $185000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
