Report to: Youth Wellness Manager & The Green Room Lead

Salary: $17 hourly ( 30 hours a week )

Position Start Date: June 1 2026

Position End Date: July 31 2026


About the Role

The Youth Events Intern will support the planning coordination and delivery of engaging community-driven events that reflect The Green Rooms mission and values. This is a summer position ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting youth building inclusive communities and creating meaningful accessible experiences.

Working together with a team of enthusiastic and professional youth program facilitators the Youth Events Intern will gain essential experience supporting our team in bringing our vision to life through pop-ups cultural showcases community events and other gatherings that spark dialogue joy and connection. This is a great opportunity for someone who is organized creative collaborative and excited to make an impact in a vibrant youth-centered environment.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program.


Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Support Event Planning: Help coordinate logistics outreach scheduling and on-site support for summer events.
  2. Contribute Creatively: Assist in developing event themes visuals and interactive activities that center youth voice and inclusion.
  3. Collaborate with Care: Work with staff volunteers and partners to create events that are welcoming culturally relevant and community-focused.
  4. Coordinate Logistics: Help manage supplies rentals vendors and venues to keep events running smoothly.
  5. Assist with Promotion: Contribute to social media newsletters and registration tools to share events with youth audiences.
  6. Gather Feedback: Support event evaluation by collecting feedback and participating in team reflections.
  7. Be a Team Player: Join meetings share ideas and help create a culture of collaboration learning and care.
  8. Pitch In as Needed: Whether its setting up greeting guests or troubleshooting lend a hand wherever support is needed.
  9. Attend Events: Be present at events and meetings including some evenings and weekends to help build community and continuity.

Required Qualifications

  1. Passionate about youth and community: You care about creating welcoming spaces where young people feel seen heard and valued.
  2. Strong communicator and organizer: Youre comfortable speaking writing and coordinating details to help events run smoothly.
  3. Creative and open-minded: You enjoy brainstorming sharing ideas and trying out new approaches to engage people meaningfully.
  4. Team player with initiative: You collaborate well and can take the lead or problem-solve when needed.
  5. Adaptable and organized: You can manage multiple tasks handle change and stay focused in a fast-paced setting.
  6. Experience is a bonus: Previous work with events youth or community groups is an assetbut what matters most is your energy and willingness to learn.
  7. Available and reliable: You can attend in-person events including some evenings and weekends.
  8. Lived experience matters: We value team members who bring insights from equity-deserving communities and show care empathy and cultural sensitivity in their work.
  9. Those hired under CSJ must be between 15-30 years of age and either a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred (foreign students are ineligible) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Weeks 37: Support Youth Engagement
  • Attend and support summer events (incl. evenings/weekends)
  • Share ideas and participate in event planning and brainstorming
  • Draft timelines checklists and logistical needs for specific events
  • Connect with vendors and partners
  • Facilitate lead and/or support events as needed
Weeks 89: Wrap-Up
  • Reflect and summarize the impact of events and gather feedback
  • Help create a short report or visual recap
  • Suggest improvements and organize resources
  • Share reflections through a post presentation or team circle
  • Join final team celebrations and exit interview

The Green Room is an IslamicFamily initiative that provides support for Muslim youth and young adults through peer connection engaging events programs and collaborative partnerships.
