Title:
Technical InternKBRs Mission Engineering Division delivers complex technical solutions and expert support to the U.S. Department of Defense specializing in modeling and simulation cyber transformation air vehicle mission integration and lifecycle support. The Technical Intern will support cutting-edge research and development efforts within the Digital Engineering (DE) Lab contributing to advanced technical initiatives across hardware software data engineering and autonomous systems. This role is designed for students seeking hands-on experience in a fast-paced laboratory environment while working alongside experienced software engineers. The intern will engage in meaningful project work that supports mission-critical outcomes for government and commercial customers. This is a paid onsite position in Lex Park Maryland with full-time availability through the summer and potential part-time continuation during the academic year. Candidates must be eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance and be able to work onsite throughout the summer term.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Contribute to technical projects within the DE Lab by supporting development analysis testing and integration activities across assigned focus areas.
- Apply academic knowledge to real-world problems in areas such as data science artificial intelligence machine learning autonomous systems or application development.
- Support data collection processing analysis and visualization efforts to inform technical decisions and project outcomes.
- Assist with software or system development tasks including coding configuration documentation and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
- Participate in laboratory activities demonstrations and technical reviews as required.
- Document technical work and contribute to reports briefings or presentations for internal stakeholders.
- Adhere to security safety and compliance requirements associated with laboratory and government-supported environments.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelors or masters degree program in a STEM discipline with an anticipated graduation date of 2026 or 2027
- Coursework or academic project experience in at least one of the following areas: data science data analysis AI/ML autonomous systems application development or computer/network/system administration.
- Availability to work onsite in the Lex Park Maryland office throughout the summer term.
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
- Availability for full-time work during the summer with interest in part-time continuation during the academic year.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on project experience (academic internship or research) in AI/ML autonomous vehicles data analytics or software development.
- Experience using programming languages or tools commonly associated with technical development (e.g. Python Java C SQL or similar).
- Prior internship lab or research experience in a government defense or applied research environment.
- Active or previously held U.S. security clearance.
Compensation: $20/HR. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidates knowledge skills abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
