Job Summary
DOBs Electrical Plan Examination unit within the Central Development Programs division examines and reviews design and/or equipment plans and specifications of the construction alteration or repair of buildings for conformity with the NYC Construction Codes Energy Code Zoning Resolution and other pertinent laws and rules. Revenue generating and essential for public safety. This position is dedicated to plan examination for the installation of electrical systems 1000 kVA and above or at 600V or greater. Failure to review these electrical plans risks public safety and slows development.
The intern will work alongside seasoned professionals to gain valuable experience training and mentoring in the research and review plans for the installation of electrical systems 1000 kVA and above or at 600V or greater.
Under direct supervision the Electrical Plan Examination Intern will perform the following duties:
-Assist in examine and review of design and/or equipment plans and specifications for the installation of electrical systems 1000 kVA and above or at 600V or greater under the jurisdiction of the Department of Buildings to note compliance with and violation of NYC Electrical Code (NYCEC) and Construction Code provisions and other pertinent codes and regulations regarding structures materials application and method of construction
-Develop familiarity with Construction Code Zoning Resolution and other rules regulations and legislation as they apply to the legality of proposed building construction alteration or repair including all Energy Code requirements
-Assist in communicating with applicants to facilitate the granting of approvals according to NYCEC and National Electrical Code (NEC) including setting up meetings with the applicant for additional information needed
-Assist in preparing reports and recommendations on the approval of applications
-Engage in research investigations studies and examinations related to NEC
-Additional duties and projects as needed
REMOTE WORK
When working a 35 hour/week schedule this position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.

Up to 17 hours/week when school is in session

Qualifications :
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or closely related field including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
