Description of Work

The Dental Hygienist position is located at the Anson Correctional in Polkton NC. Anson Correctional Institution is a multi-custody facility housing female offenders in close & medium.

This position reports to Correctional Associate Warden. The primary purpose of this position is to screen perform prophylaxis instruct oral hygiene measures and perform other procedures permitted by law for the general care of the oral cavity. This position in combination with the dentist and dental assistant comprises the dental staff which is responsible for the delivery of general and preventative dentistry to the institution population.

The Dental Hygienist position is responsible for performing the following duties under the general supervision of a licensed Dentist:

  • This is technical dental work in examining cleaning and instructing on the general care of the teeth
  • Examines offenders and makes referrals to dentist if special professional care is indicated
  • Applies topical fluorides and performs dental prophylaxis in the prevention of dental disease
  • Records findings and maintains records on dental status and services rendered to offenders on the proper care of teeth and recommends measures for the prevention of dental disease
  • Assists the dentist in planning and carrying out dental health programs; or may function in a role as a dental hygienist consultant/analyst.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the application of the techniques and practices of dental hygiene.
  • Demonstrated working skills using dental equipment instrumentation and radio graphic techniques.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.
