Job Summary
The Finishing Department Technician is responsible for the final stages of lens production including edging mounting and final quality. This role requires strong technical skill attention to detail and consistency to ensure lenses are properly fit to frame specifications and meet all quality standards.
This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate has advanced finishing experience understands multiple edging platforms and can troubleshoot issues improve processes and contribute to overall workflow efficiency. This role also serves as a technical resource within the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Edging & Finishing / Mounting & Assembly
Operate edging machines and assemble lenses into zyl metal nylor and drill mount frames. Ensure proper sizing bevel placement alignment and fitment. Perform grooving polishing and handle complex jobs including high minus high plus and wrap frames.
- Quality Control / Troubleshooting
Inspect finished jobs to meet standards identify and correct issues troubleshoot machine and job-related problems and take ownership of final product quality.
- Equipment / Process Improvement
Perform routine maintenance work across multiple edging platforms identify workflow improvements reduce errors and support best practices.
- Communication / Safety
Maintain records communicate issues and trends collaborate with team members and follow all safety protocols.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Minimum 5 years in optical finishing required. Experience with multiple edging platforms and high-volume or high-quality lab environments preferred.
Skills & Attributes
Strong knowledge of finishing equipment. Experience with zyl(plastic) metal nylor (semi-rimless) wrap frames safety frames and drill mounts.Ability to read a Humphrey or manual lensometer (BNL). Detail-oriented problem solver process-minded and demonstrate leadership through initiative and accountability.
Physical & Working Conditions
Standing for extended periods manual dexterity and strong visual inspection ability required. Lab environment with machinery noise and PPE as needed.
