Job Summary

Position Title: World Language Teacher Spanish
Location: Winthrop Middle School
Reports To: Principal / Assistant Principal
Position Summary:
Winthrop Middle School is seeking a dynamic and engaging Spanish teacher to provide high-quality instruction in World Language for students in grades 68. The successful candidate will create a student-centered learning environment that promotes language acquisition cultural awareness and global competency. Instruction will align with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education World Language Curriculum Frameworks and district expectations.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver standards-based Spanish instruction aligned with MA World Language Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Implement proficiency-based instructional practices that emphasize speaking listening reading and writing.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners including students with disabilities and English learners.
  • Integrate authentic cultural content to deepen students understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including technology to enhance student engagement and learning.
Assessment & Data Use
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Use student data to inform instruction and provide targeted support.
  • Provide timely meaningful feedback to students and families.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress in accordance with school and district policies.
Learning Environment
  • Establish a positive inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environment.
  • Promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that support a safe and productive learning space.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams special educators and support staff to meet student needs.
  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) team meetings and school-based initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with district goals and educator evaluation standards.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelors degree in Spanish World Language Education or related field.
  • Massachusetts teaching license in World Language (Spanish) grades 512 or 58.
  • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition practices and proficiency-based instruction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred:
  • Masters degree in Education or related field.
  • Experience teaching Spanish at the middle school level.
  • Familiarity with ACTFL standards and proficiency guidelines.
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction.

Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits in accordance with the Winthrop Teachers Association contract.
