Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE:

Assist cook with all cleaning tasks in the kitchen and associated areas

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Incumbents may perform all some or similar range of duties as below.
Set up dining room and serve meals.
Maintain dining room tables and chairs in a clean and tidy condition at all times.
Sweep and wash all floors in kitchen stockroom kitchen washroom walk-in fridge and dining room.
Clean all assigned kitchen areas such as windows baseboards tables chairs walls floors kitchen equipment stoves fryers ovens and washrooms and associated storage areas daily.
Wash dry and store all kitchen and food preparation dishes pots pans and utensils.
Restock washroom supplies and cleaning supplies daily.
Apply proper lifting and carrying techniques for heavy items to avoid physical strain or injury.
Complete the established daily assigned routine tasks.
May assist in preparation of simple meals and drinks.
Maintain the highest level of hygiene and cleanliness while performing all duties.
Adhere to safe food handling procedures including proper storage preparation and cooking methods to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses.
Operate all kitchen equipment safely and responsibly adhering to proper usage guidelines to prevent accidents.
Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal: Ministry Unit leadership dining room staff kitchen staff volunteers.
External: Clients vendors community members.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Food Services Manager

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
Assist with receiving and stocking food and kitchen supply orders.
Safe usage and maintenance of food service facilities and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work duties are mostly performed indoors.
The role required bending kneeling or stooping when required to lift items such as loads of dishes kitchen tools machinery and food preparation equipment.
Long periods of standing on hard surfaces are required; carrying/lifting/moving up to 30 lbs; unpacking delivery vehicles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Qualifications and Certifications:
Some high school completion.
Standard First Aid CPR and AED or willingness to obtain.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
Up to 3 months of related experience.
An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
Skills and Capabilities:
Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
Good oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing circumstances.
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Demonstrated patience understanding and professionalism in all interactions.

This is a Full-time position

Scheduled weekly hours : 40 hours

Wednesday through Sunday 9:30am until 6pm.

Target start rate for this position is $16.97 per hour.

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
