The Arizona Game and Fish Department is looking for a driven detail-oriented professional to join our fiscal team. This isnt just an entry-level positionits your fast track to becoming a government accounting expert!

Youll examine financial documents for GAAP compliance manage the general ledger and monitor state and federal grant funding. Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Accounts Payable Supervisor this position is responsible for maintaining a fiscal services system for state and federal grants license revenues and donation accounts in which examining a variety of financial documents for completeness accuracy and conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Makes entries and revisions to the general ledger monitors funds from state and federal grants for available funding for payments to vendors to assure that expenditures do not exceed funds available. This includes reconciling reports from AZ360 and APP which includes check requests; inter-agency and intra-agency payment requests needed due to program area requests and monies owed. The position will be performing professional accounting work to support the Departments mission and the expenditures of the Agency including the wildlife watercraft and off-highway vehicle resources of the State of Arizona and to all staff that contribute to the Departments mission.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures with a requirement to come into the office a minimum of 2 days each week at 5000 W. Carefree Hwy. Phoenix AZ 85086.

Major duties include:

Makes payments to vendors using the states automated accounting system AZ360. This includes payments to internal and external vendors for P-cards Ghost cards inmate labor etc. by reviewing the arrangement request form for compliance with state and federal mandates internal policies and procedures and procurement regulations noting discrepancies in billing and contacting necessary parties for resolution prior to payment.

Process payments to vendors involving federal grants and state appropriated funds in APP. Reviews that goods and/or services and invoices were received and verify amounts to pay.

Monitors funds from the federal and state government to ensure proper matching of expenditures and available funding for payments to vendors and ensures cash on hand.

Makes entries to the general ledger by inter and intra agency transfers as needed due to program area requests or accounting analysis.

Analyze prepare and reconcile encumbrance and invoice payment reports to general ledger and assess for accuracy completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards. Reports variances to Accounts Payable Supervisor and Accounting Manager.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate must have knowledge in/of: economic and accounting principles and practices; the analysis and reporting of financial data; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); comprehensive knowledge of the principles concepts practices methods and techniques of government accounting; Internal control structures and fiscal management; Considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques of automated financial systems; Comprehensive knowledge of reference materials such as federal regulations Arizona Revised Statutes applicable agency manuals.

The candidates must be skilled in: analysis interpretation and communication of financial data; Handling detailed work with accuracy and speed; Performing accounting functions; Performing broad administrative support functions; Monitoring accounting requirements and deadlines; Composing a wide variety of complex accounting system procedures; Responding to a variety of complex inquiries concerning the progress of accounting functions and in providing advice regarding proper accounting procedures.

The candidate must have the ability to: operate office equipment; Maintain confidentiality at the highest degree; provide positive and effective customer service to a variety of internal and external customers; work independently and multi-task; use discretion and independent judgment; respond to others with tact diplomacy and patience; and maintain harmonious working relationships with all levels of Department staff and external customers; possess a good eye for detail accuracy and reconciliation; be proactive and work well under pressure.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have some experience as an Accountant 1 or equivalent accounting/payroll/bookkeeping work experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

The candidate must have a Bachelors degree in accounting or a closely related field required.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current valid state-issued drivers license appropriate to the assignment.
